I would love for my children and myself to ride to school everyday. We had a ride to school day 2 years ago, my child was in grade 1 and a competent bike rider so off we set. Oh my god, my child was in tears and i was completely stressed. We would have been knocked off our bike three times before we had made 50 metres if we werent quick enough – there is no bike lanes, or even footpaths in elliminyt except for one road, the roads are not wide enough for 2 cars and even 1 bike, hence having to jump off the bikes quickly and drag them up onto the grassed nature strip. This was such a dangerous exercise and i was very angry. I would love to ride with my kids to school and in a few years, for them to ride without me. I suggest that you make this happen. Not much point pushing for people to do something if it isnt reasonably accessible or safe to do so. I believe the expression goes “all talk, no action”.
