A quick race Report.
A large field in D grade this wee (23?) turned up at WSID with a moderate easterly breeze. Race was to be about 30mins plus 2 laps.
We started fairly fast, a small break emerged and i chased it down. When i reached the solo breakaway, he wanted me to take the lead but i wasn't having a bar of it. I certainly wasn't doing a two man breakaway for 30 mins!. The bunch caught soon after.
There were no more real attacks, but plenty of surges. The race was faster than last week. I reckon about half the field had been dropped by the last lap.
The last lap was fairly uneventful, but coming into the main straight i was till in the back third of the field and i could see the leaders (2) powering away. There was a chase group and i latched onto them, they were fading so about 400 from the line i put the hammer down. My bike was a bit all over the shop and i apologise to Les? from waratahs for maybe cutting slightly in front of him. There was no touch but i shifted a little left, he shifted a little right and it was close call.
Anyway, there was now just 2 ahead of me about 20m ahead. They were a large bloke in a yellow jersey who was leading out a well postioned bloke. Well about 150 out the second bloke launched, i kept going, bridge the gap mostly but he got me by about 1 or 2 bike lengths in the end. So a long sprint, not much lead out and some poor postioning at the top of the straight still saw me take second place.
I was pretty pleased. well done to all other riders.
The stats: (time stopped about 300m after finish line)
Dist: 21.97km
Time 37.02
Avg: 35.6km/h (about 1km/h faster than last week)
Cadence avg: 79.3
Avg heart rate:167bpm
Max: 54.2km/h ( about 4km/h down on last weeks sprint, no southerly)
Max hr: 197bpm
See ya all next week.
