Update for anyone who's hanging out for some more posts.
Grip strength will eventually fully return, I will permanently have a slightly lower knuckle, but this is just cosmetic and won't be that noticeable.
Last night I did some stretching after stationary bike (more after) and when I went to touch my toes, my fingers (on the good hand) missed the ground by about 5cm. Prior to the injury I could put the palms of my hands on the ground, so I seem to have lost about 23cm of flexibility. Never mind, I'm sure it will return in no time at all.
I don't have a gym membership until the 7th September and yesterday I was going to go for a walk, but couldn't motivate myself. Come 7pm I said to myself "nothing on TV" and walked to the local RSL (thats a club in Australia with food, drinks, poka machines which are quite popular with retired people). It has a tiny gym with 3 broken down stationary bikes. After a while setting it up, I warm up and I'm already bored so I decide to do 15 second sprints, but the poor machine isn't really designed for that amount of force and the resistance just disappears, end result I hit a cadience of 210rpm huh? So the ride went like this;
Warmup
5 * 15 second all out sprints with 1 minute 45 seconds recovery, by which time I was rooted.
5 * 15 second all out sprints with 4 minutes 45 seconds recovery
Stretching
Look forward to using the bikes in the gym starting 7th September.
Looking at the gym timetables they have different types of classes;
- RPM
- Cycle
- RPM High performance
What's the difference between these three? What types of intervals do they do?

Cough, cough! Mike and I know.europa wrote:I know what sogood said about riding one handed, but get on the beast and out on the tracks. Slow and steady - you can use your bad hand in tricky spots but favour it the rest of time. Not being able to ride is getting to you, so do something, even if it doesn't help the fitness any.

I did...but I had to argue the point!.We wee mixed up with B grade on what should have been or bell lap but they didn't say either way so when a rider attacked back around B grade on what we thought was our last lap I soon followed,stayed completly to the other side of the track just so I couldn't be accused of sitting on B Grade then sprinted the other guy for the line only to get the bell for another lap to go.The other guy was blown so I just kept going but they didn't register me finishing.There was only 5 left in the race with 5 laps to go.The 3 chasing me in the last lap were a long way back.But a few of the B grade guys let everyone know that I wasn't riding with them on the 2nd to last lap,although you really have to exagerate that to please everyone....so B grade from now on.There aint many left in C these days anyway...only about 18-20 started.mikesbytes wrote:Did you win C grade ?toolonglegs wrote:Oh well ... no C grade breakaway for me at Hefron,B grade next time...might be a while till I can hold on to B grade!.

I went for a run this morning, the first one since the accident. While my pace was normal, its pretty clear how much fitness I have lost. I'm guessing I'll be from the front of C to the rear.

Hope it all works out for you and pray to the goods that good weather permits.mikesbytes wrote:Tour De Mike was scheduled to recommence tomorrow with a lazy 85k ride, but only if I was wearing my track gloves so to protect the hand, but these gloves aren't suitable to wear in the rain, so it ain't looking promising.
Until next time...
