12 hour bike race at Eastern Creek

Has anyone done, or is thinking of doing the 12 hour bike race at Eastern Creek this year?

The furthest I have ridden is haste is 120k. I guess the minimum distance you would do on this ride is 250k and you could possibly go over the 300k mark.

What kind of special preparation would you need?

I think i would be doing a lot of high cadence interval work. From what i remember of Eastern Creek (by gum its been awhile) it's alot like Sandown (slightly up and down but no real "Hills").

SOOOOOO Yeh High Cadence Intervals 5min on 5min rest twice a week. Then maybe a 50-80k Ride at 90 cadence and efforts every 10k for 5 min, then finnish the week with a 2.5-3hr ride on some nice undulating roads with efforst every 10k for 5min.

Then i would be trying to load Carbs at 60%,Protein at 30%, and Fats at 10% the 2 weeks before the ride to make sure you have plenty of fuel to go.

I'm very likely to be attending this one, with the local cycle group. After doing the B2B with energy to spare, I'm a bit more confident with the road bike.

If you're doing it solo then you'd probably need a lot more training.

Apparently last year a couple of people did it on unicycles!

I'm really annoyed about missing the B2B, especially as the things that made me pull out all went away at the last minute (but I thought that Friday night was a bit late to start preparing). Can you post a report under the thread in the NSW forum?

Regrettably, we will not be putting this event on in 2007. Our previous major sponsor (an importer, not a specific brand) has left the cycling industry and the event cannot go ahead this year without a major sponsor.

We are actively searching for a new sponsor for 2008, and hope to bring this event back next year, bigger and better than ever. If you know of a business looking for fantastic exposure at a major sporting event, please contact us!"

I'm disappointed as well, would have been a good test for either the "Sturmenator I" or "Sturmenator II"
