If the SRAM S40 is your wheelset of choice, I would say you are being overly ambitious expecting sub 6kg.Geney wrote:Calculated to be around 5-6kg.
The S40 wheelset alone is 1700g according to the SRAM website.
My next project involves
Farsports 38mm carbon clincher wheelset 1240g ( or as current built up with rimtape, tubes, tyres, skewers and SRAM red 11-23 cassette 1960g)
FM066 frame 850g
FM066 fork 370g
FM066 seatpost 190g
Easton EC90 SLX bars 200g
Most Tigerlite stem 135g
SRAM Red BB30 groupset, with Force FD (+30g) and Planet X brakes (-60g) (less cassette included above) 1670g
Selle Italia SLR saddle 135g
Dura ace PD-7750 pedals 280g
That is 5800g without bartape, cables, bidon cages, spacers etc. I am hoping/expecting the finished bike will be between 6200g and 6500g.
So I am interested in how you will achieve sub 6000g, with such a relatively heavy wheelset.

Very good, up until last weekend was running my 38mm up front and my mavic open pro/powertap at back for everything racing, training, 100km group rides, even a couple of commutes in wet and dry.PawPaw wrote:how are you current 38mm going Nic? My 50mm's are still like new after 1000km.
Close to 1000kms on the front, including hitting a pothole at speed in the dark, no damage, throughly checked them then and again on weekend, less than 0.5mm out of true, still good as new. I took them off to fit Continental Grand Prix Attack + Force Set tyres & Supersonic tubes in preparation for this weekend's race which involves too much climbing for me. Only reason not back on, difficultly changing a tube for regular use.
The only reason the rear does not get the same level of use, only 100km or so, is I like training and racing with a power meter.
Seriously contemplating investing in a new 300gm Powertap G3 hub (my current powertap is the 640g elite+) and lacing it to either a 38mm or 50mm Farsports rim and getting a 60mm or 50mm Farsports front wheel.

I did say calculated. So far, this is what i've calculatednickobec wrote:If the SRAM S40 is your wheelset of choice, I would say you are being overly ambitious expecting sub 6kg.Geney wrote:Calculated to be around 5-6kg.

sram red black groupset 1739
sram s40 wheelset 1802
stevens xenon frame 972.5
fork 350
selle italia slr 225
3t dorico seatpost 189
3t pro stem 114
3t pro ergonova 192
Total 5583.5
So + pedals, tyres, bar tape, bells and whistles, it may just be over 6kg.

I am doing similar calculations while waiting for my frame to arrive, and my results where different to yours, which was why I questioned your calculations.Geney wrote: I did say calculated. So far, this is what i've calculated

have a look at Pawnii's original Scott Foil build earlier in this thread, to see how all the little things add up. And Pawnii was very weight concious with that build.
You are going to end up with a very desirable and light weight ride, it just will not be under or close to 6kg with the S40 wheelset.

I verified every single thing on my new Foil Premium build and I was still 60grams out.
I put it down to grease, chain oil and electrical tape.

This is the replacement.
Scott Foil Premium Di2
It's 6.8kg.
My bike is actually 6.4kg not 6.8kg.
Must have had a brain fart when i posted it originally.

Hi Steven, knew it was you, unlikely somebody else would use your handle and also live in Cairns.stinhambo wrote:Totally out of subject but hello Nic! It's Steven from Port80 that went to Cairns.
Back on topic, should I build my new crit frame to be under 7kg (using parts I put aside for my climbing bike), so I can take photos to post in this thread, so we get a nice alloy bike here.
Or stick to the original plan and build a solid 7.2kg crit racer
