I use cyclemeter,
Have been using it for about 8 months, pretty accurate, uploads to google maps, gives you speed, average, callories burnt, climbing distance etc, also uploads logged rides to facebook and has a live updates while you ride advising speed, average, distance etc and speaks comments to you made by your friends on FB,
think it cost about $6, best 6 bux i have spent on my bike thus far.
cheers

I use runkeeper, mostly for pounding the pavement, but it does work quite well for cycling. The web interface is brillilant for breaking down your workouts - sh*ts all over Garmin Connect / Training Center.

The app can now accept Garmin .gpx files, so you can track your GPS-logged activities through the app too!

+1 for Cyclemeter

Cyclemeter, plus, if you like you might try awareness if you use your buds a lot. :D

I also use imapmyride and imapmyrun. I just use them for distance/avg speed, which is all I want at this point. The post to facebook thing is pretty cool if you want to show off :).

I've loaded cyclemeter and it works although I would have expected 40km of riding continuous hills (Frankston to Mornington return via Mt Eliza heights) would have used more calories than 40km of total flat (Frankston to Mordialloc return) which indicated 1440 calories in the hills against 1486 calories on the flat, average kmh was higher going to Mordi of course but??? Maybe Cyclemeter's cal calculation is too simple or would this actually be correct? Also indicated 604 meters of climbing for the hills against 366 meters of climbing recorded on the totally flat Nepean Highway, hmmmmm. I still like it although I might try another app., it's not like they cost a fortune eh?

Yeah as I said earlier - the elevation feature isn't that great(ie. accurate). I dont think its the app, just the nature of GPS on these devices.

Really any calorific value is going to be useless on these devices, unless it can determine wind speed and direction, gear ratio etc. One of those power tap device would be best for that.

For those that are running cyclemeter on iphone 3gs, what sort of battery life are you getting out it? I presume you'd leave it on the 'Stopwatch' screen while riding so you can see how fast/far you're going.

I'm keen to give this a try for my 1-1.5 hour commute, as I can't afford a Garmin or similar. I'd like to be able to track my rides through the year.

Just lock the screen and you'll be fine. :)

I used it on the Bris gc ride with no problems.

if the screen is locked, how do you see any of the useful info ? i'd expect it should last for hours without the screen sucking the power.

Even if you don't lock it i think they powersave after a few minutes anyway if they don't have external power.

With wifi turned off and screen locked, iv'e used Cyclemeter for 3 hours+ with plenty of charge left to make calls if needed. Just make sure your phone is fully charged b4 you head off.

yeah I can support cyclemeter too.
I use it in conjunction with my cycle computer, find it really handy for the post ride analysis!

I've been using Motion X GPS and that has been working ok. Occasionally it crashes half way through a session. Sounds like an overwhelming endorsement of Cyclemeter here though. I'll have to check it out. I don't have a mount. I set it running, turn the screen off, and put it in a plastic bag in my jersey pocket. That way I can check my stats post ride. I have a Catseye speedo on the bike for basic stuff.

Just a heads up, as someone mentioned before RunKeeper.

Good program with a GPS function and can log your pace/kmh every kilometre. Also can be set-up for interval training.

Kicker is, the PRO version which normally costs $12.99 (I think) is now FREE for January!

Get on it!
