Vuelo Velo Di2 Electronic Road Bike

Postby sogood » Tue Feb 08, 2011 7:14 pm

Vuelo Velo, a novel bike venture by a well known Sydney cycling identity has just released their new Di2 Electronic road bike model. Ti frame with internal cable tracks and a stand out frame design. I don't expect it to be cheap but it's nice eye candy!

Haven't asked yet. But Ti, unique design, high end construction, small volume would ensure it's somewhere up there.

Had a look at the site.

Hmmm. Different, yes. Distinct, yes. Better, ummm, nfi.

Would I buy one over a Baum, no .

One thing that strikes me is that the seat is a LOOOOONg way back.

Looks well made, but also will be VEY expensive.

That's just the perception. If you look more carefully, the frame squeezed the wheelbase and the seat tube curve allowed the seat point to be at the same normal position. Supposedly this gives the bike a very agile feel but not excessively harsh through its use of Ti and flex in the seat tube/post. Wouldn't mind giving it a try though.

Maybe it is the angle of the foto...but that seat tube just looks stupid to me...also welding doesn't exactly cmp...but maybe that is the photography as well.

There's a reason why traditional frames run to the standard diamond...

I'm with MichaelB on this. Cubano will do me thanks.

Had a look again, and curved seattube is not winning me.

But the twin chainstays look cool . Dunno if it does anything special, but looks good.

Still a Baum for me.

Looks and hidden cables are obviously one aspect of the bling decision tree. The more technical others are,

1) Is the even shorter wheelbase desirable on a road bike? What about on the fixie/track frame?
2) Is the extra vertical cushioning noticeable? If so, is it worthwhile?

The subtle curve in the one in sogood's post is growing on me the more I look at it; the singlespeeds just look plain silly though!

No worries about the seatpost not being inserted to the minimum insertion mark!

Same here. To me it's a bit of an acquired taste and one that wears in. I too had similarly shocked reaction when I first saw one of their bikes but slowly have started to feel differently about them. Interesting concepts.

Not that I am in the market for lacking justification and out of space for another bike. I quite liked the idea of one of their offering for a fixie. It'll be completely different and much more novel and practical than all the customisation the fixie crowd typically do.

arty farty bikes whose design is based on aesthetics than function.
the fact that the home page for V.V shows hipster helmetless fixie just settles it, albeit a rather sexy looking hipster :P

these frames belong in a gallery !
