I couldn't find a related topic here in BNA so I'll just start this off. Sheldon brown's website indicates that 25.8mm clamp size diameter drop bars were intended to be used for 25.4 and 26.0 stems.

I am looking for a 25.4 dropbar but choices are limited and I see some 25.8, not sure if they fit my 25.4 stem. has anyone tried this on their older bikes? cheers!
25.4 vs. 25.8 drop bar clamp size.

yes, it's an interim measurement to try to help those who use 26mm Cinelli stems.
Thing is, it'll probably work but like most things you need to have the parts in the same place to be sure. Where I've made it work is in 'springing' the jaws of the stem slightly with a big flat screwdriver. Slightly.

I'm going through similar experiences currently with a Cinelli stem & not having a large enough bar for the clamp to grip. Last night I squeezed a shim between the bar & stem as described above spreading the clamp with a fat screw driver.
Gas propulsion.......it's natural don't fight it.
