Road wheelsOk guys quick question, what are the best value for money road/racing wheels? Looking to spend around the $1000.00
Re: Road wheelsIf it was me, I would buy some Fulcrum 1's or if I could find them on special I would look at the Fulcrum 0's.
I have the one's and used them all last season for crit and road racing. Quality, not quantity.
Re: Road wheelsEveryone's opinion will be different, but personally I would go for either Mavics or Fulcrums.
Fulcrum 1's, Mavic Ksyriums are all good and you can get a really good set for your budget. If you are a bigger guy, increase the spoke count and go after straight pull spokes. If not, just go for it. 2010 Eddy Merckx EMX-3

Road wheelsIf it was just for racing I would find something a bit aero and stiff.
If you don't want to swap wheels for racing / training then go one of the above options... Maybe.
Re: Road wheelsAmerican Classic 420s
Lighter faster cheaper, if you can put up with team America plastered all over your rims! http://cassons.com.au/IN_Product.asp?pi ... 000000003X
Re: Road wheelsI bought a new set of RS80 - C50s from ribble earlier this year. They can be had for $750 delivered from the UK.
http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-t ... HIMWHFR390 It's quite a competitive price, especially when compared to wiggle/crc where they are closer to $1000. My LBS had them for sale for $1,200 AUD. Although on the heavy side, I have found them to be great wheels, seem to be quite strong for the relatively low spoke count. My understanding is that they are a mix of dura ace rims (i.e. same rims as on C50 Dura Ace clinchers) and an ultegra hub. The hubs are quite "stealthy" if thats what you prefer. 2011 Cervelo S2 | 2013 Specialized Langster | 2005 Specialized Allez
Re: Road wheelsHave you trawled Bike Radar? There were a number of recent wheels reviewed.
I love my DT Swiss Tricons, >18K km and still going strong. Ha ha! Cookies on dowels.
Re: Road wheelsDura Ace C24 clinchers. Awesome wheels. Good hubs, light and stiff.

Re: Road wheelsFor comparison sakes I'm around 100kg and try to race as much as I train.
I have a set of RS80 clinchers (not the C50). They have been great race and training wheels. For around $600 delivered from overseas they are hard to fault. I've tried no-name Chinese carbon tubular wheels (yishuin) and although they were ok I wouldn't go down that road again. I've recently bought a second hand set of zipp 404 tubulars and they are the best wheels I've owned. I got them for just over $1,000 including a brand new cassette and Tyres from eBay. Light, aero and fairly stiff they are great all-rounders I've also had cheaper shimano clincher wheels and in the end you get what you pay for. I ride several bicycles, but not at once.
Re: Road wheelsI second Shimano Dura-ace C24 clinchers for a reliable fast wheel set under $1k.
A mate bought the Fulcram Racing 0s - great wheels but hubs feel plastic in areas. He also had the rear hub rebuilt after a short time. Weekends: Giant TCR Advanced SL1 - Full carbon, Dura-ace, Custom 50mm tubulars
Commute: Giant TCR Alliance 1 - Carbon / Alloy Frame, full Ultegra G/set, Dura-ace 24mm CL rims, AYUP lights
