Which one to buy Pro 4 or GP 4000s - wanting a fast comfortable tyre with durability - heard 4000s more durable but I like the Pro4 - any thoughts??

If you don't want punctures - GP4000S

If I was comparing PR3s with GP4000s, I would say the Michelins for speed, comfort, grip and handling, Conti's for only a few percent less of all those and much better puncture resistance and durability.

But PR4's? Maybe they're better than the 3's. Can anyone compare directly?

PR4's on special at c r c so going to get a set and see how they go.

Anyone know any sites with rolling resistance tests? For sprint tris I just want the fastest tyre, don't care much about durability etc

^^^ are you running latex tubes?.

I love the ProRace3... but i only have used the 4 once, it was a disaster... 3 pinch flats. One sitting on the start line, bang... luckily there was 100 names to call out and I had time to go back to the car and repair it. 2nd was a week later ( these are only on my race only wheels remember ) ... pinch flat in Departmental championships, I was flying at the time and think I could of won it  ... can't remember the 3rd but the tyre went in the bin after that ( maybe 100 kms on it )... maybe it was fault with the tyre but I couldn't find anything. Not sure if I will bother trying them again  .

How does the tyre cause pinch flats?

No idea mate, but it happened 3 times in short succession, chucked the tyre and no problems since.

I rode the Michelins for a little over a year on a borrowed bike, and the only time I punctured was when I rode over a piece of timber that I hadn't seen and pinch flatted. Certainly not the tyre's fault.

The only time I stacked a road bike, I fell off the Michelins.

In honesty, having ridden both, buy the one you like best for whatever reason, however trivial.

I really don't think that there is anything to choose between them.

I bought a pair of Pro 4 in red to match the bike, they were great untill it rained then bits of wire and glass penetrated easily, put up with a couple of weeks fixing punctures then a sharp bit of plastic shredded the front tire, i have gone back to contis

Those Contis are great tyres. I've got them on my alloy wheels. I'll buy another set eventually and put them on my carbon ones when the standard Bontrager tyres are finished.

Those Contis are reliable.

I have used pro race 2's briefly. Sounds like they haven't got any tougher :o . I'm staying with conti's for my clinchers, well I'm trying a schwalbe durano at the moment, It hasn't convinced me yet though, I'll probably order more conti's :)

ihaven't used PR 3 or 4 but my unscientific experience with using coloured Conti GP4000 are that they are more prone to getting punctures than normal black ones.

What aspect hasn't convinced you? What don't you like about them?

I haven't had it on for long, only done ~200 k on it. It's feel/ride is no better, ditto grip and it is heavier. There is no significant price difference between the two. It may yet prove more durable than the 4000S but it will have to be very good to do so as I have had an excellent run from the 4000S over several years. Its not a bad tyre by any means, just hasn't convinced me to move away from a product I am very happy with.

Haven't had them long either. The reviews were good so worth a try. Mainly got them for the grip, puncture protection and durability (in that order). So far the grip is confidence inspiring and they roll well considering how thick they are on the tread compared to the Rubino Pros. By the time I've worn out both Rubinos as rear tyres, my opinion may have changed with the Durano on the front.

The above is it in a nutshell. Completely agree.

My personal view - GP 4 Seasons are more durable than the 4000s and grippier in the wet. They may not be faster, but I've never yet had a good result in a race where I punctured...

I've had 3 punctures so far this year. My miles are in the signature...

Balked at the last minute and went with another set of Ultremos. Read so many varied reviews on the PR4's.

I had ProRace3's before and got a lot of cuts and punctures with them. Sometimes it's just luck with any tyre but have been all good bar one massive rivet with the ultremos

I've had no luck with any Conti' tyre and will no longer use them. I've had a great run with Ultremo's and will continue to use these for racing. I use Schwalbe Blizzard and Lugano for training wheels, with few punctures. I've never tried the Michelins.
