Looks like it mate. Like any parent Im just happy he is doing a sport and keeping out of trouble. That fact that its cycling is a bonus. Another bonus is that my brother and his wife and kids all race too. So he gets to train and race with his cousin. I think next year after he finishes school we will get an idea of what he is capable of. Im trying to be unbiased but I have seen a lot of bike riders and he has massive potential, he can climb, sprint and time trial and knows how to hurt himself. He rides track too.
Here's a photo from 12 months ago, a NSW track open. He's giving my brother a beating lol. That's me in the background in the white shirt.

Thanks Philip. Saw a fair few photographers out there but am yet to see a public list. I think they were all private like yours.

Mikesbytes (red jersey) and me (black and yellow) at the NSW Masters M5 crit last Saturday. This is a very special and rare photo - it makes it look like I might have been getting somewhere! Like I said to Mike later, I went for the learning experience, and I got schooled. I'm glad I went though, and it gave me a good perspective for next year, when I get "promoted" to M6.

I watched them go around later, M6 that is, and it was a highlight of the day, for the tactical battle and because you could sit, as I did, at the finish line near the top of the straight, leaning your back against the post and dangling your legs down the wall, with an almost unimpeded view of the entire circuit and Crafty talking it up over the speakers. The M6 race was a battle between breakaway artists and the bunch, which was ultimately won, very deservedly, by one of the former, when he finally broke the rubber band, along with a companion. A Sutho rider bridged to them with a huge effort, only to crash part way through the last lap! The rest were left to battle it out for 3rd.

The other highlight of the day was in M2, where Peter Milostic (Penrith) got away solo pretty early, caught the bunch with laps to spare, and then cruised around on the back of them to a magnificent win.

Here I am getting the KOM points in our Mount to Murray race. I went on to win C grade in my first win at an open Vets event. It was a horrible windy day with hail even falling during the race. The first 65km was flat and undulating roads with mostly strong crosswinds, not great for a lightweight like me but I kept myself protected and waited for the last 25 km which is hilly. I attacked soon into the climb for KOM points and got a gap of 200m which I held. The group disintergrated on the climb but 6 chased back on eventually. The run to the line was a block headwind and mostly slightly up hill with some steeper pinches and then a 200m finish at 8%. Sprinting is not my strong point so I took a gamble to attack on a steeper section about 1.5km from the finish. I could see everyone was hurting and hoped that with the strong headwind no one would want to take up the chase. It worked and I won by 13 seconds, totally spent and very pleased with my ride. Stats 91 km, 1000m climbing, race average 34.7km.

Not a race per se, but any event can be one.

Nice of the photographer to snap this one, pretty sure it was the only time I was at the front of this high quality field!

At the Buderim 9 last month, a ridiculously tough ride for a good cause (Cerebral Palsy League).

And to give an indication of how steep some of the hills were! (This is on the last climb, and the steepest pinch, which peaks around 22%)

The photo doesn't make it look that steep, though it obviously is, looking at those riders going across the road.

Yea it's really annoying the way the camera flattens it out. The course actually goes down that hill too and it rolls over a bit of a crest and simply disappears beneath you  .

At the "That Dam Ride" down near the Qld/NSW border, easily the hardest 100k I've ever done. Very happy to get 3rd place, even if it was 14 MINUTES behind first (a ridiculously strong NRS rider).

Allow me to point out the minor but relevant detail being that your steel bike weighs about 11kg.
First and second place-getters were riding state of the art CF bikes, presumably about 7kg.
Does make a difference on a hilly course like that.

P.S. with the firing of the start cannon was there some message about it not being a race ?
