Just passing on the fact that Marconi Cycling Club are holding crit racing under lights at Sydney Dragway (AT) Eastern creek for a trial period on Tuesday nights over winter. Start 6:30 pm, sign on from 5:30pm. Cost $15 (same as summer). At least one hour of racing. Hotdog type circuit 2.15km long (up the Dragway and down the return road) Grades A - D. Come and support this initiative. See Marconi CC Facebook page and website for further details.

Night crits are awesome, just be sure not to blind yourself from your own lights when you go for the sprint.
Don't laugh, I've done it a few times

A couple of questions:
1. how were numbers? More/fewer/similar to daylight saving races?
2. How was that messy skid pan area on the access road? Many punctures? (it always looks like it's full of wires from steel belted tyres being chewed up)
3. Was it safe - ie. lighting good - can you see riders trying to come around you? Did you feel safe?
4. Where do you turn at the bottom of the straight - before or after the mouse hole?
OK, that's more than a couple. But I'd be very grateful for any comments from anyone who was out there...
numbers were down a little but they will pickup no doubt, was 20 odd in C grade from memory, 90 all up there abouts
i got a flat before the race and my front tyre was flat this morning so i will tell Brad and boys to spend some time blowing the skid pan,
lighting is perfect.. easy as !! BAN ME NOW FOR SWEARING !! to see.. was actually better than racing in the day light i reckon..
turn before the mouse hole just at the burnout box.. its pretty tight but plenty of room to go 5 wide around there if you wanted to..
i ran 2nd in C grade. missed the win by 10cm but at least it was a mate that won! will get him next week, ill be there every week i can to support the guys..
c grade ran 51min as well which is a nice change from the 40min running in the day light!
Was good fun out there, definately better than solo training thats for sure!
1. down a bit but dare say there will be more next week
2. dont think there was as many punctures as expected... i was there about 5ish & the Marconi crew spent a good amount of time blowing it down and pulling off lumps etc...
3. suprising how much light there was actually.. better than i expected. only difference to normal was i couldn't read my garmin data in sections but with my hr doing what it was i wasn't worried
4. as above,.. before the mouse hole
Really wish this race wasnt run at the time it is, as it sounds good.
Don't know how they will get super numbers out there when any standard hours working CBD people would struggle to get to sign on and race in time. Its just too early
you need to be there by 6:25 to race, if you cant get from the CBD to eastern creek by then there is something wrong or you need to leave a little eairler..
its the same time as the normal summer racing so i cant see there being a problem with the numbers getting up to normal summer levels if not more..
i have spoken to Brad and they are going to give the burnout pad a little more of a blow but most of the punctures were reported on the normal track.. it was probably a case of apex seals out of all the rotarys that were racing there on the weekend lol
That might be true if you drove to the CBD and parked ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$) and had your bike with you.
For the rest of us who aren't loaded with cash and have to commute back out of the CBD, making the 6:25pm time is just not possible.
That's OK though - I realise this is just my own problem and there are plenty more of you that have the ability to get there on time
Don't let your boss see the photos.
You couldn't get away at 3:30pm one day? Surely it wouldn't cause too much of a headache - companies should be able to accommodate it. So far I've resisted the racing urge, but this makes me think about changing my mind.

I agree re the time. It's a long way from the city or other eastern points, and there is no need to start at any particular time to beat the sunset. I can only get to a couple of summer crits per season for this reason, but I'd come to more if they started later. Even half an hour later would help.

The time is the same as Tuesday night racing in the east during the summer at heffron. That time also makes it difficult for us westies to get to.
The first rider in the background of the piccy is me

Due to circumstances beyond Marconi cycling clubs control, racing is cancelled tonight. A dance party had left the track with heavy equipment still in place and mud from the rain on the weekend in places it shouldn't be. Maybe next week...
