Probably not the easiest place to get a consistent average because of the many interruptions from pedestrians, other cyclists, dogs etc. Also there are a fair amount of slow/stop points. It also depends on your start and finish points which vary from person to person.

Only use it for slow easy rides, too dangerous to try and go fast on it.

I don't think I'd try for any decent average speeds on the cycle way. Not really suitable for it, unlike the M7 cycle way.
Popcorn anyone?

I think it really depends on when you do it. I tend to ride the cooks river when everyone else is at work, so I usually don't see any other cyclists and scant pedestrians. Mostly it is just mother's groups at the various playgrounds along the path.
I'd probably average around 27km/h, but you have to ride to conditions. I never set out on that route to beat a time.

Cooks river cycle way is my commute route home, from Nth Strathfield to Botany. The best time I have made the commute is 50mins. Although there are many reasons the time varies. (Mostly fatigue)

When I first kicked off riding and used the cooks my average was around 25km/h. Though I find the cooks isn't a great place to use as a benchmark as folks have said - heaps of walkers, dogs, hazards and dodgy cross overs. The underpass under one of the bridges thats halfway to campsie coming from the airport - thats like .5m wide - and the wooden cross over bridge that you need to dismount on, pretty much sums up the track.
If you want a good benchmark - veer left just after Tempe station and climb the hill just after the velodrome and follow the road to the lights, turn right and go downhill and rejoin the cooks path
