If the frame's in good nick and you are in love with the way she feels when you throw a leg over, why not?

Agreed. It's a decent frame, good enough to carry DA. If you can justify the respray then go for it.

If you like the bike, but not the colour.....

Paint is cheap compared to bikes.

In my experience, most non custom bikes come I a very limited range of paint jobs.

You could spend a few hundred on a really nice paint job on the bike you already own and love to ride, or you could spend thousands on a new bike, and hope they have a colour scheme you can live with...

The paint job would be more fiscally responsible.... But if you're looking for an excuse for n+1, don't let us talk you out of it :-)

I would buy this if it fits,http://www.turningpointcycles.bikeit.com.au/a/road-bikes/focus/vic/mordialloc/izalco-team-sl-3-0-dura-ace/102326617
I was very tempted but didn't want mechanical so ended up getting a new frame instead.

Some folks spend all their hard earned putting silly wheels and expensive paint jobs on hyundais and Commodores when they could buy a newer and probably better car. You won't get your money back, but it's your money and at the end of the day no one can tell you how to spend it.

It's hardly a hyundai though.

I have the same frame that danny boy posted in the link above - my LBS split the bike up for me and they kept the groupset. Marked down from 5000 to 3200 is a super deal.

But does it fit? Does it ride well? Does it suit your needs and do you LIKE it? In the end, you only need to justify it to yourself.

plenty of people restoring, painting old rides in the retro section too. They do it because the bike, to them, is worth hanging onto. ITs only a waste of money if at the end you don't use the bike (or stick it on the wall to admire)

Only 2500km? That's not much. My Giant TCR SL1 has done over 10,000km and it's maybe not even a year old. It is still going fine, although like yours, it has a chip on the fork where a stone got flung up from another bike and hit it. If the bike runs well, then keep it going.

I got given an old Steel racing frame years ago. It was a hideous colour, it had stone chips and the drive side chain stay was dented and rusted where a chain drop had happened.
Since it was free I got a quote for repairs and respray. As this was originally a $2000 frame (according to original owner that gifted it to me), the $270 to return it to "as new" condition was a good investment. I was that he had tried to sell it for $500 in the damaged condition but could get no takers.
The restored frame came up very nice (Star Enamelers), and I still have that bike as my weekend road bike, built by me as a learning exercise. The groupset is a mixture of Dura-Ace and Ultegra from different series (78xx Brifters, 77xx brakes, 67xx everything else).
It has served me well and I will probably always keep it.
