Hi
I have finally decided to upgrade my current road bike. As my current road bike was a hand me down from a family member it’s about time I get an upgrade. I currently have a 2011 cannondale caad 8 and will be using the bike for my daily commutes to work and also going on rides with friends on the weekend.
I am looking at the 2 following bikes, one is used and one is brand new. I am not sure which one would be better value for money, specs, etc. Any recommendations would greatly be appreciated.
1. 2013 Giant Propel Advanced SL 1 - $3,000: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/wonnerup ... ly_message" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Or
2. 2016 Giant Propel Advanced 0 - $3,300: http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-au/bik ... 279/84207/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Which Road Bike Should I Get?

I was looking into these bikes a couple of years ago (second henge propel SL series vs the non SL series new). I actually ended up getting a specialized Venge second hand that came up, but I did a lot of research on these options. Things to consider:
* One is Di2 and the other is not. Which do you prefer? (I wanted DI2)
* One has a seat mast that is cut to your (or previous owners size). Not as versatile and may limit resale or whether the bike can even be fit to you as there is very limited range saddle height with this system (Ok if you are shorter than original owner and can re cut). Also, if you plan to travel with a bike, the seat mast is more difficult to fit in bike travel cases which is why I ended up not going that way.
* A couple years ago I was pretty disappointed in the wheelset of the Advanced 0 (which may be better now). The giant wheelset seemed to have a poor quality fairing that was quite soft, and in reviews it did not do well. It seemed the original version from several years ago was quite good and reviewed well. It had a stiff carbon fairing, but they seemed to compromise the wheelset a lot when they reduced cost with the soft fairing. Also probably not compatible with many roof rack mounts as it is too soft.
In my case, I decide to go for something else better for me that came up as neither option ticked all my boxes, but your preferences will probably be different to mine.

Well i like to buy secondhand, you get amazing value;
But i would think the propel is a little pricey. Mid 2k is more like i would be thinking. It is really three years old and also it needs a good looking over by a profesional.
Ask the owner to take it to the lbs and pay for an inspection (if you agree on a price, condition of purchase). Then you can make an informed decision about the bike. If he says no, there are many more bikes on gumtree.
I have seen brand new 2013 bikes like this kitted up with top grouppo zipp wheels for under 5k.
Remember bikes de-value faster than cars!!

I've bought all my bikes new and the look of it is just as important as how they ride. Major reason being that I keep my bikes in my lounge room so they act like furniture when not riding on them! They are both furniture and bikes which justifies their expense!

That's super value for the 2013 SL1. DA C50s as well. Just need to check the brakes. If its got the Fouriers Brakes or updated brakes and it fits then buy it!
