cycling Tasmania+WWOOfing
Postby drawn2mel » Sat Jan 27, 2007 10:02 am
How many people are cycling round Tas at the moment? Has anyone heard of WWOOfing?am fresh from the mainland and landed in tas 2day. Managed 2 get my little daihatsu packed with a rear bike rack and have 2 bikes with room for one more if the occasion rises. Then we will see how the car does wheelies with the weight on the back. Shes packed tight with camping gear and any other crap I could fit in. The rear wheels had to come off coz the cars a bit narrow but one week in2 a trip and i'm a happy camper so far. It is freakin cold and I've stepped into winter time here.

Bit late to this topic.
I was in Tassie in December and all I noticed was a group of recumbent riders on the east coast, actually quite dangerous too (those crazy guys). Didn't notice much else at this time.
I know what WOOFING is now, a google search and I am instantly smarter.

February and March seem to be the popular times for cycling around bits of Tasmania. Bicycle Victoria is holding the Great Tasmanian Bike Ride soon and Alltrails have a tour which tacks onto that. There are a couple of private operators who also run tours and you will always find a couple of people doing it on their own. You will usually see them cycling through the rain, mist and cold of the west coast (well, I did) for some strange reason.

I did too. Except I did the extreme west coast and ventured down the Corinna Track, which resulted in the front of the bike separating from the rear.timbo wrote:and you will always find a couple of people doing it on their own. It was a really good ride though and the west coast of Tassie is great for riding.

still going strong round tas. Have done a full circle with just a little too little riding. But still, have pushed my bikes around a bit. Have only just looked at this forum since the first post. So far the wwoofing has taken a back seat since a guy wanted me to go pick blueberries with copperhead snakes. NAH

I've just done a major conversion of the touring bike to gear it down. I changed to an MTB crankset giving me a 22T small front chain ring. The bike climbs walls now.
I'm ready for my relocation there in July, so wont have problems climbing those mountains.
Anyway back to living in the freezer until then (I hate hot weather)

1. I hate hot weatherMJF wrote:So, you are moving to Tas? Any particular reason?

3. My lease runs out in June and the chances of getting another house are pretty slim.
4. I moved back from Tassie's west coast some years back and thought I'd try the east coast this time round.
5. and I hate hot weather

I noticed that. You can get sunburnt on a sunny day in winter. The sun has more sting than here in the west.
