I have the frame all stripped  (only shocked at how easy it was....nothing bad about the frame)

Kukamunga, can you shed any light into the frames history, or did I buy it pretty much how you had received it?

I only ask because whoever did the powdercoating sucked bigtime.

BTW, I still don't know what colour I'm going to finally put on her, but it will be dark.

White base coat over the lugs.

then mask them off.

then a black base coat over everything else.

then remove the masking and Candy Apple Red over the top.

then a couple of coats of clear to follow..

1, you get your dark colour.
2, you get to notice the lugs.
3, you get red and everyone knows that red cars go faster, why not the same with bikes!!

Excellent choice, I think Kuka
But does really take a certain type to be able to ride the "Kolors" with flare (or was that flares)

have a google for sepang bronze. its a bit lighter than that in the flesh. bmw do some v.nice systems. if your painter can get the same depth, it'd look wicked i reckon.

Well..... I'm the painter.
And the depth really comes down to getting a good solid base of colour on, then at about 6 or 7 coats of clear.

On a side note, I've been doing some looking around for some rims to go with build. I decided a while ago that I would try and squeeze 27" rims into her.....they fit...very snuggly. Anyway, I'd been looking for something that looked more modern, and had a talk to Velocity.... end result is that they make two different 27" rims. Their website only lists the "Twin Hollow" a traditional looking 27" rim, however they also do make the "Synergy" in 27" on special order. At $99 each I think they are quite reasonable, and should really look good with the high flange hubs that I'm using.

nice price on the synergy.
is that an ex-factory price, or do you have to buy through a reseller?

No... not ex-factory unfortunately..... they don't sell retail. The price is through Starthpine Cycles.

Speak to the guy's at Strathpine Cycles about the Areohead, I'm sure they can order it in for you.

I'm a big fan of the stealth look of matte black.

Someone mentioned a wrinkle finish earlier on this thread, that thought had crossed my mind previously but does anyone have photos of the finished product?

Love hammertone too, painted my 4wds sunrasias (wheels) hammertone blue. will be doing the grill and the mirrors hammertone charoal when I get time. It's a bugger of a paint to spray though, even my spraypainter mate says so. I brushed my wheels and it turned out quite good.

You can even have a go at making your own by mixing them up. Or by adding a small amount of silicon oil to normal enamel paint, we haven't quite mastered it yet otherwise I'd let you know how much.

sorry about the delay..... I've been busy with work.....

The photo hasn't shown the colour very well.
It's suppost be a Hammertone Metallic Charcoal......but it's more silvery grey than Metallic Charcoal. I'm still happy with it so far. I still need to get some bits, the brakes are in the mail, and I pick up the handle bars tommorrow. Seatpost is yet to be bought, and I may have to rethink the wheels..... I had been planing on putting 27" rims on it, but I've been playing around with the 27" wheels off the Apollo (same hubs) and another set of brakes, and I think I'm going to have problems with the brake reach being to long....... ....... so 700c rims may be on the cards.

 Not suprised there's brake reach issues with that front wheel.

Looks damn nice so far.

Rim update..... I now have set of Sun 'Venus' rims.......I am thinking of doing something mildly exotic with the spoke lacing, possibly 2 leading/2 trailing or crows foot on the front , and a half/half mix on the back...... yet to decide. There's some interesting reading regarding it here

I also have the handle bar's fitted, although they didn't fit the stem  , I have used a clamp on stem with an 1" quill adaptor at the moment (to get the brakes and gears set up). I plan on machining a small bit out of the stem's clamp so that I can fit the bars properly......

26.0mm bars in a 25.4mm stem?

I've thought about modifying some of my MTB and old road stem collection to fit 26.0mm bars. Need to look into whether i can get a 26.0mm or adjustable reamer at not too great an expense....

How do you plan to 'machine' yours, Lark?

I was thinking maybe a small engine/brake cylinder hone would do the job, it doesn't have to remove too much material, a minute in the drill press with plenty of wd-40 to flush it should do the trick....I have a few old stems that I can practice on first.

Kerosene might work better than WD40 on aluminium

~0.5mm is a fair bit to hone, I would've thought - let us know how it goes.....
