My first 1000kms

Postby frunobulax » Mon Dec 01, 2008 9:53 pm

I have had my bike (2008 Avanti Giro in resplendent black and lime) for exactly 2 months now and got to my first 1000kms on Sunday just gone. I have been working pretty hard at it - riding 3 times a week before work, at least one afternnon after work, a shortish ride on a Saturday arvo and a decent distance (50kms+) each Sunday with my son. Only been rained out a couple of times and even though I have been quite sore at times, pleasingly I have managed to show some self discipline and have saddled up on those cooler mornings when I felt like rolling over for another half an hour sleep!
Next challenge - enter one of the local club races in D Grade and not get tailed off by too far!

Congratulations. 1,000km's is a long way. I can only hope to get that much in my first half year as a total.

But seriously, well done and good luck with the club races.

Gday Fruno,

Im brand new to cycling and I bought an orbea rival at the start of sep, ive just clocked up 1000klms this week too! doing around 4-5 rides a week, about 20-40klms per ride. Haven't gone above 50klms yet, but booked in to the mutual challenge (150klm) in jan. Setting myself a goal and loving cycling to death now- those online sites (probikekit etc are soo tempting)....

Just a note, over the 3 months - speeds for same HR (143) are up around 3klm/hr (25.5 up to 28.5klm/hr) Also spent last 3 weeks doing intervals for first time and they're REALLY helping speed (and lactate threshold- could hardly get my HR above 150 without chronic leg burn but now I can easily)

Cheers Krill

Wow nice, it took me twice as long to clock up 1000km! Sounds like you're well and truly addicted :)

Good work. Now calculate roughly how much petrol, insurance, rego and wear and tear that means if you were driving a car and go out and spend that money on your bike. It's only fair, and good for the economy too.

Well done Krill,
I have only done one ride of 100kms which was a charity ride to Tallangatta and back from Albury. Did it with my son and we made a nice day of it - took us about 5 hours of road time. We are doing the Mutual Community Tour as well, but only the 40km one as we might not handle Adelaide's heat as well as some might. Good luck with the long ride - I have a colleague who recently retired to S.A and he has ridden in the last couple. Look out for Mengler's Hill apparently!
