Complaint thread

My complaint is the weather.

Any other year it wouldn't bother me but now I'm riding it's getting quite irritating, more so now we've started racing and I'm losing fitness.

I took my daughter out for a ride today and sure enough we got wet again. That's 5 rides in a row now. I know I shouldn't complain since you people would kill for a drop of rain but we've all had enough.

It's rained everyday except one since Jan. 17th.

Interesting times ahead now. We have a cyclone watch and it should be up to a cyclone warning late this evening.
Even if it crosses nearby as a rain tropical low we're still expected to get buckets loads of rain.

The national media are having a field day relating this with Innisfail but they don't seem to realise these things affect a very wide area.

Damn it, could things get worse!!!! Now my druggo, hippy, almost proven shop lifter customer is in the store!!!
He'll hang around, scratching his greasy hair, torching all my stock for an hour then buy a second hand $2 miniature.

I better get back to watching the cameras.

Tuco, I'd really love to post something playful, something having a shot at your predicament and your constant complaints about the weather ...

BUT ...

... man have you lot got it hard this year. I couldn't believe it when I saw the cyclone warning last night. Maybe it's time to set up some rollers. Now there's an exercise for you - have a chat with the local junk shop specialist and make your own set of training rollers. Sure, it's easier to buy them, but turning it into an exercise might make the whole thing feel a little less like 'I'm dodging the weather'.

what was the comment about avian excrement? :D

Okay, my freaky friend has left the shop.

We may get some fine weather after this cyclone/tropical low passes to the south of us. It'll drag in NW or W winds which will be dry.

So hopefully we'll be back into full riding mode by the weekend.

We actually got a brief 5 minutes of actual real sunshine yesterday! First time since Sunday last week.

I don't mind riding in the rain too much, I just worry about my daughter falling. If certainly is a LOT cooler riding in the rain.

A few definitions -
Cyclone watch - Cyclone could hit in 48 hours.
Cyclone warning - Cyclone could hit in 24 hours.

The warnings are exciting as they come with gliding tone sirens and all.

I have to ask...why not buy a wind trainer?! I got one about 10 years ago and paid $100 for it. It is a completely manual adjustment thing but it works. In winter, I'll be on it up to 5 times a week, and in summer, I use it less but am trying to keep to 2-3 times a week as it helps me get my pedalling style right.

I'm sure you could pick up a cheapie and then you could cycle every day and not lose any fitness :D

I have mine set up in the spare room in front of a TV. Some people hate the idea as it is pretty boring but I find watching a movie (with subtitles on) makes time go really quick. My husband measures his trainer work in the number of episodes of The Simpsons he watches!!

One word of advice though...don't try to use the playstation and ride at the same time. I tried a car racing game and quickly discovered that 1) my cadence depended on how fast my car was going, and 2) I tend to lean over to "help" my car speed round corners. I'll leave that to your imagination!!

Moo...

My complaint is... Your crusing along at a nice gentle space minding your own business and some turkey puts himself on the limit to overtake you, pulls in front of you and then slows down. "Hey I overtook the racer"

No problems with been overtaken, just now hes in the way and as slow as I was going, I got to slow down even more, while Valentio Rossi glorifies his victory, or give up crusing overtake and get rid of him.

It's amazing the number of people who go flying past me and then don't seem to be able to pull away ... and I'm a fat old bugga on a touring bike  Must be some delicate egos out there

Richard
notice I didn't comment on those that go flying past me and then disappear into the distance

Bloody hell, the wind tore our pool shade cloth in half. Split from one side to the other. Lucky it's covered on our home insurance.

Wind is gusting to 50km/h. Just like a windy day (evening) so far.
Would have loved to have gone out for a ride in it just to see what the tail wind would have been like but I had to go back go the shop and fix the awning it case the wind gets worse.

Back on thread, old people pasting me. Two old codgers pasted us today (admittedly we were slow to take off from the lights.) We got caught at the next set of lights and they got way ahead so we just had to catch them and past them at speed. Of course they then tried to catch back up to us so we went up to 33km/h an left them for dead.

Yes well the weather has been a bit crap down here too. I just spoke to Mum and over there it's -5 this morning, so I should be grateful. I'dd just like a few days where I don't have to cycle into wind, of the Mother natures kind.

Just rode home starting 8.45pm and there was screaming tail wind. Used the big ring up the hills.

Well it's a little windy today and oddly cool for this time of year. Must be the southerlys we're getting at the moment.

Our poor old pool shade cloth copped a beating in the wind last night. Other than that, no casualties.

It's overflowing. It was salt but now it's fresh water. Have to spend a fortune getting it back to normal now.

The cat normally has a morning sleep on one of those chairs but he was having a pre sleep feed when I snapped this.

can you not use something like Blue Crystal instead of salt? Just wondered as I established 5 blue crystal pools before i left the UK. Much simpler to operate etc, and only use the liquid Chl. to shock dose once a month. All my clients said they prefered it too.

I agree, it's been so hot over here in the west that the concrete cyclepath melted.

It was hell trying to drag a loaded touring bike out of the molten concrete.

Urrk, that's not fun.

You've got a lot of smoke about too, don't you?

It's cleared up now and the sun looks almost it's normal color.

That's great news, the smoke's been gone for over a week now, and most of the fires are controlled. Massive kudos to firies everywhere, Heros all :)

Don't forget the regular volunteers. They never get a mention.
When we had the ash Wednesday fires I wasn't a firier because I worked all over Victoria at the time (so couldn't train on a regular basis) but I was based at my parents where the fires were.
Couldn't fight the fires so a bunch of us took a few days off work (like that was a hard decision!) and signed up as volunteers.
Quite an experience and one I'll never forget, I'd recommend to anyone.

Had a great boss to. Got back to work after almost a week off and since I was still a trainee I asked what to put the leave down as, he said I saw you here the whole time.

However, this is the complaint thread not the happy thread.

FINALLY got to walk up the hill last night. Bugger me if I didn't hurt my back. Bloody hell, I was, and still am, pissed off.
It's VERY steep in places and that's where I felt a pulling sensation so I'm hoping it's only a muscle strain. It's not like other lower back injuries I've had where my movement is restricted and I can't stand up straight.

Second race is next Sunday. What with all the rain we've had and now this I'll never be ready.

Don't say that. Last time you said it'd be a cyclone and we had flooding rains.

17C ? It won't get that cold until about mid May and that'll be in the middle of the night!
We don't get much below low twenties in winter.

Luckily I don't think your prediction will come true.
