Yes it is, very. I think it'll be quite a while before i have something like that again. still the one I just got should keep me busy for a year or 2

The front forks are Chromoly and the frame is aluminium, but the seat down tube appears to be Chromoly as it makes a different sound when tapped. It's a Mongoose Randonneur of a few years vintage.

I don't want to scratch the paint off, but taking the seat tube out and looking down the tube, it doesn't look like aluminium.

You guys should post pics! I have no experience of Roadies apart from they usually overtake me at Warp10!

This is Aussie day when I was killed off by the younger generation doing a 120k ride including RNP (thats a hilly bit south of Sydney). I'm 45 in the blue hemet. The bloke in the middle is 33 and the rest are in their 20's.

Youth have a way of doing that!.. Right now tho everything overtakes me, including 3 year olds with stabilisers!

Still sunny up here. Getting as much riding in as I can in case the wet season remembers it is actually the wet season.

Although this is a happy thread I have to say the heat is over powering.
At 6:00am the heat index (the old apparent temperature) was 34.2C with 92% humidty, and that was 6AM IN THE MORNING!!!!!

What else do you do when it's that hot at 6am? Practice hill climbs of course!
After 2 I thought 10 would be a good round number, after 5 I was rooted.
I had to get off the bike, my legs were wobbly and the funny part (after all, this is a happy thread) was me trying to drink with a pulse of about 170 and gasping for air. If I timed it wrong I would have drowned myself. You had to be there.

The other happy thing is the ringing in my left ear has gone. It comes and goes. Sadly doctors just say it's tinnitus and give me a pamphlet, that'll be $50. I know it's not permanent as it comes and goes and I know there is an under lying cause because it comes with extreme tiredness (EG wanting, no needing, to sleep at 9pm - that's unheard of for me!), sinus pain, etc but do doctors want to help?
I haven't had a cold since April 2000 and this problem started with back in July last year. Instant ringing in ear, tiredness, sinus pain, etc.
I had a hearing test but it was during one of my good periods and the test came back perfect.
Anyway, enough of my problems.

When it's bad riding is great because I can't hear it.

I better make the most of it. Now I can concentrate I better modify some databases so I can incorporate them into my shop database. I've been putting it off for a week.

This is fun when you're on the bike too!
So is trying to eat when you're gasping. My cunning tactics for Sunday meant that I had to start eating my 'Growling Dog' just before the halfway mark - which was just after a climb, with 3 kms of rolling terrain to come. Getting the bl**dy thing open was hard enough, then my mouth was too dry to chew it - if you didn't laugh you'd cry.
And, yes, I had only just finished chewing the first mouthful when my chain went!
ps. the 'happy' part of this post is 'Growling Dog'. I'd much rather be thought of as a 'growling dog' than a 'whingeing cat', which is what I usually am by mid-race!

Vaguely back on topic, I'm happy with setting a personal best time for the longer of my two commutes home from work (i.e. to my place rather than the GF's, ~22km, 1:07) yesterday and following that up with a personal best time on the way into work this morning (~21km, 1:16, worse traffic and more hill climbs in this direction). I'm loving my new Continental Sports Contact 26x1.3"s and cadence sensor

Oh, and it's Valentine's Day too

Pretty good I spose, the junior at the LBS sold the 'puter Tim put aside for me 'bout fifty minutes, these things work you so differently to a MTB, all good.
