Had my first flat of the year yesterday morning, approx one km from home and half way up a freakin hill. Decided to walk it home and fix the flat in the relative comfort of the garage rather than on the side of the road...

Didn't post any flats here last year as I only got on the road at the end of October, but I did end up with about 5 flats. Hoping for a much better run this year...

Hi - im the a newby 'registered' but been reading some of the forums for a while.

Well I had 2 in the last 1.5 weeks one front one rear, but technically the first one was before 1st Jan 09 so that only makes me +1

30TPI road tyres i am suspecting i could officially win this if i keep the kms up, but will resort to better 120+TPI tyres if i know myself well enough and burn the old ones in a sacralegious manner...they were the OEM tyres...

One more for me, I was on a flyer on the way home today. Shame to have to have to stop and do the second half of the ride on around 100 psi with the lovely tail wind.

New total 3 with 174 kpf (kms per flat)

De ja vu, nearly an identical day, nice and sunny with a beautiful tail wind home and pop goes my rear again. What a shame to slightly spoil the ride but hooray, every cloud has a silver lining and that gives me the lead. Catch me if you can.

New total 4 with a slightly lower 146 kpf.

There you go - no flats in ages, and as soon as I start running Black Cat, the fairy strikes. Now averaging 250km between flats :(

mikesbytes. He has shares in a tube company, and permanent marks in his knees from kneeling by the side of the road replacing them. And at night, his fingers smell of glue....

Check the first post in the thread. I've linked to the 2008 comp and put the results up as well.

edit: typo.

Jr, did you post all your flats last year? I noticed an absence of you towards the end of year.

Mr Moo - 2

Same ride, within 1km of each other, different part of the tyre. I don't want to offend so I won't tell you what he said

Hmmm..... do we allow competition entry to non-members of the forum? I think Mr Moo needs to sign up so he can post amusing stories of the Fairy, but I'm happy to be told otherwise.

He would join, but I reckon I post enough for both of us!! Besides, this way I can talk about him...if he was a member I wouldn't be able to tell all those funny stories :)

And you wouldn't complain if he wore a BNA jersey now would you

Meh...do what you will :P

That's why in 2008 I added the rule "anything I didn't think of" cos someone is going to figure out a senerio that's outside of the specifications :)

Dicky valve on my spare tube didn't improve my mood :x

First ever flat today, pinch flat running over train tracks. I've crossed train tracks quite a few times before without problems, but this was the first time across this set, and it as a pretty nasty jolt. First thought was "ick, that can't be good for the rims". Second thought about ten seconds later was "funny squishy feeling under my bum is even worse". :(

I was already running late and about 30km from home, so called SWMBO. At least I had the tube changed, and was just trying to pump it up when she got there. I've also figured out the cheap K-mart mini pump I've had for ages can't go past about 40 psi.

Perhaps most annoying was that I'd just finished the into the head-wind part of the ride and was looking forward to a cruisey run home...

1 flat, 298 kpf.

Simon.

Bugga! First of the year.

Nail went through my rear tire heading down Spit Hill (heading north) > 60km. Luckily, no probs other than the flat and a small chip on the outside of the rim.

My Schwalbe Stelvio Plus' have had their unbroken record flattened (ha ha), the same day I make a recommendation. It's enough to make a rationalist superstitious. Mind you, I don't think any tire short of a monster truck would have survived that nail.
