First 50....done

Postby Dave R32 » Sun Jan 11, 2009 10:44 am

After 4 days off the bike earlier this week due to a virus this morning I headed out on my Scarborough / Redcliffe ride. A slight tail breeze all the way out made life easier, this became head on while riding south down the foreshore. Stopped for a coffee in Redcliffe and then headed home.

On the ride back I had to stop at every traffic light which meant getting into a groove was impossible and the breeze was cross / head on for most of the trip until I turned into North Lakes, had my first look at the km travelled and decided to do the extra 15km to get my 50 !!

Stats:
1H 52M
Avs 26.7kmh
Ave cad 73
Distance 50.6 km

A couple of observations from this ride:
1. My Avanti branded knicks run out of comfort at the 50km mark.....time for something better.
2. The full bike fit I had done in late December at Dutton Cycles was worth every dollar today. We went up 25mm in seat height and flipped the stem to give me a slightly more relaxed position and climbing is now easier probably due to proper leg extension....love it.

Brag over.....now for a 100km ride :D

Cheers
Dave.

Well done mate.

How much did your Avanti knicks set you back? I've bought the occasional jersey back have never bought knicks from an LBS. Too pricey..... I have cheap knicks ($30 or less from Torpedo 7) that are comfy for me for over 100km rides.

Well done Dave, good average especially after being sick. (As you know I was sick last week too, but sounds like you were worse then me)

I'm a bit of a cheapscate compared to some people on this site...don't be too quick to ditch the nicks if this was your first 50...mightn't be the nicks fault, just your anatomy getting used to a longer distance.

Well done, have you put it up on the Fit GIts journal yet (I bet you did that the second you got home :P )

Good on ya.
I have not been out today, but if the wind was anything like Saturday morning it would have been fun  I rode into it from Burpengary to Scarborough and then still had to ride into it to Woody Point hahaha, it was good to have the tail wind on the way home going twice as fast.

Ni78ck - Thanks, max speed was just 50kmh and a couple of other times I hit 46 - 48.

Boognoss - the knicks cost me $69.95 from memory and so far have been great until todays ride, even then it was just a little bit of pain in one sit bone. But I have justify spending more money on bibs somehow :D

Pax - Yeah I entered it into bike journal after a quick brag to my wife :D

Orion - Thanks, but I did it on road bike, from memory yours was on a MTB with nobby tyres and on more undulating terrain.

JCR - No way this morning was as windy as yesterday morning, I didnt ride yesterday and noticed a lot less cyclists on the road when I was driving to work.

Cheers
Dave.

Great work, Dave!
I might be paranoid, but it doesn't mean that people aren't out to get me.

the 50 is a great milestone and once its been done its hard to justify going out for any less than that! Good job. 8)

Hey, good work on your first 50! I was stoked when I hit my first half ton too! It wasn't long until I went the whole hog and did 100. You'll just need most of the day to do it... Big ups yourself mate! well done
