My motivation - I try to remember how good I'm feeling when I do the exercise - not the lethargic lump I feel now. I've also set a goal to participate in a triathlon in 12 months - so if I don't get off my arse I'll let myself down. Even though it's gunna be bloody hot today, I'm still off for a ride - just a short one though
The 4:20am start has gotta suck, although I'm only an hour after you when I ride in.
How about if we sick(sp?) some of the particularly nasty forum members onto you (volunteers?) if you don't do some more riding?

Set yourself a goal and use that as motovation, or join a club and get motovation from others.
Have a nice day

This is what happens if you don't ride.
1. You get Fat.
2. You get lazy.
3. You drop dead!
4. You'll be banned from these forums after step 3.
Is that enough motivation?

Motivation to ride?
Hah!
Seriously, I wanted to do a 50km ride on the fixie this weekend, but fixed gear is an intense ride - not doing it in this heat. Maybe I'll wait till after dark. Maybe I'll watch tele.
The drop in motivation is quite normal boys. You get all keen about this new game and for a while, the pain, discomfort and plain stupidity of the whole thing doesn't mean a thing. But after a few weeks or months, reality rears up and slaps you in the face. That's when you realise that getting up at half past midnight just so you can stink out the office all day loses its appeal.
Now is the time to concentrate on what you enjoy. Don't beat yourself up for not commuting, or not going for a ride - rather than motivate you, it actually guarantees that you'll fail. Start going for rides in the evening, on the weekend. Bung the bike on the car and ride only part of the commute. Just do stuff that is easily doable and which makes you feel good. You'll find that very soon, your distances will stretch out and you are back to the sort of work level that you originally envisaged.
Seriously.
Forget the weight.
Forget the fitness goals.
Just enjoy the bike. That in itself is better for you than sitting in front of tele with a slab of beer. As that enjoyment becomes entrenched, you'll find that once again, you can set performance type goals, and you'll achieve them.

Just go for a little ride - make it a 'reward' ride (so, ride to your favourite coffe shop or something that takes your fancy) not a commute.
Do it again tomorrow.
Have a play on / with your bike after work a couple of days next week
Next weekend, ride a bit more.
Then, if you feel like it, think about commuting.
Personally, I think that commuting would be a hassle - but then, I get up at 6 am to ride most days of the week (even in winter) - so I'm not really in any position to question other peoples' idiosyncracies.

I'm delaying my first race until a key member of the club is back from his racing down south.
I did go down to Heffron this morning and they were running some kind of race there. Seemed to be an ITT of some sort.
