Do you know if Tektro will change the shape of the hoods.

The Cane Creek ones are rather comfy, similar in shape to the Campag style.

Tektro are the budget brand. Cane Creek, at more than twice the price, are reputedly more comfortable

Where can I find Euro Trekking bars?

What is the stem clamp diameter of these bars?

I am thinking of going down tube shifters with MTB brake levers on the Euro bars ...

Here at St John Street Cycles or here at Harris Cyclery

I think they are the same diameter as most MTB bars (25.4mm) generally. I would advise to run MTB brake levers and Rapidfire shifters fitted on the rear straights. Harris Cyclery shows them with road STI brakes, mounted sideways  ! Personally I reckon that is sacrilege - poor ergonomics for braking and not the designed use of them.

Hi all,
Finally received my parts package from chainreaction after some drams about unavailable parts.

Here is an initial pic ...
Image

I had a few dramas during the build ...

1. Had initially intended to trial a surplus 50/34 crankset I had with 11/34 cassette. I did not expect any problems, but after installing a new chain to just test out things, I realised that the chain was too short. It jammed when I tried to adjust the derailleur limits on the 50/34 combo. Are all chains of standard length? I counted the links in the new chain, and there were 114 links ...

One solution is of course to purchase another chain, and utilise that as the donor chain for links ...

2. Ordered just one v-brake, and not a pair ... so had to borrow one from the wife's bike.

3. It has been raining heavily here , and could not test ride my build ... I am not quite decided on the positioning of the bars.

Since taking the picture, I have put on a longer stem (120mm), and lowered the bars ... quite happy with my SRAM gripshifters. It was a piece of cake to dial in the shifting.
