I had two clamps holding the carport guttering in place (ready to be permanently mounted) then the wet season started. I WD40ed the clamps to stop them rusting expecting the rain to last an hour at the most.
700+mm of rain and 2 months of tropical sun later I got around to removing them and they were still covered in WD40. I used them last weekend and I had to wipe them with a rag to get the WD40 off before I used them.
And to WD40's credit, they didn't rust.

WD40 is a great cleaning agent IMO, nothing decruds cable outers like a squirt. A little bit on a rag makes fork stanchions gleam.

The clunking, which I thought was brought on by me was actually something loose in the crank area (something to do with cups?) and the guys were quite good about it, and didn't charge me. I bought some lube from them on the spot.
Lesson now learned. Very easy ride today, still quite clogged, but the Mrs. is keen.

I think by cups they are referring to a kind of screw on metal dust cover. Sometimes they come loose and sometimes they rub on the BB. An annoyance but not significant.
