Does anyone know of a facility / school / TAFE that offers a good indepth bicycle repair course that can be done on a part time basis in Sydney.

I like to do my own repairs and services. BUT I like to know what I am doing before I start something. I am talking about bottom bracket repairs, wheel truing, headset repairs / adjustments and correct derailleur and cable adjustments etc.

I have books and am aware of some good websites but nothing beats seeing things done at least once.

Renegade Cycles and Cheeky Monkey run various courses. From memory both these guys have info on their websites and courses can be structured to your needs. Sydney Community College has bike courses as well but I am unsure of how detailed the course/s are. If you have no luck there, contact the MTA and may know of who else holds them.

Additionally, if you are anywhere near Newtown, the bike club www.bikeclub.wordpress.com meets on Monday afternoons into the evening and there is always plenty of bikes being pulled apart and repaired. You can go to help out or simply watch and learn so its a great way to learn about bikes.

Hope this helps,

Karen.

same question but in melbourne? I know the basics on old bike but am lost with newer bikes (i had to ask the salesman how to change the tiagra gears on a fuji roadie i was looking at) and have never been able to true a wheel. A course would be brilliant!
