things I learnt today....

Postby thejester » Mon Jun 08, 2009 2:52 pm

1. If you have one foot shorter than the other, then the cleat on shoe of shorter foot, should be placed further back on the shoe to prevent knee pain.
2. cyclists shave their legs because..... LONG knicks (roubaix) are itchy.
3. (AT) the 60km mark my legs start to sting. (I need to research this more)
4. bald heads require more than a helmet to keep warm in sub 10 degree weather, despite exercise.
5. shoes purchased with 30+ degree weather in mind, don't keep your feet warm in sub 10 degree weather either, despite exercise.
6. it doesn't matter which direcion you ride there is always a head wind, especially in sub 10 degrees.
7 I prefer to ride with no chamois.
Trek Madone 3.1
Giant CRX4 - Black Ghost

Add this to your list.
A bald head and a helmet give you a very funny pattern on your head when the helmet is off

To fix 5, get some overshoes.

On the weekend I learned on a long ride, eat even if you are not hungry (or you'll run out of energy before the end of the next leg).

Also, never ride with a trumpet up your arse, (or is that a witches hat?) especially on long rides!

In which case you are obviously not following your own advice and eating the correct foods

Thing I learned today: Ninja riders coming towards me on a very dark shared path are hard to pick-up in the headlight beam.

I have learnt this one too.
My right leg and foot are shorter then the left and I have the right shoe cleat as far back as possible. :)

Yes, I saw one of those commuting home yesterday along a bike path that crosses a few roads. It was dark by then and some Ninja rider just speeds past me with no front light, then proceeds to cross the roads without even slowing down. Talk about an accident waiting to happen. Hope he lives to outgrow it.

Which leads me to ask: If a ninja rider falls in the dark, does anybody notice?

Must do since we see some many reports of sightings of ninja riders ...

A long ride is no fun when you have only a micro-pump and an empty CO2 bottle... and it's raining.

And last week I learnt that a $400+ light works much better for the ride home in the dark if you have remembered to recharge the battery the night before.
I ride, therefore I am. But don't ride into harm's way.

I have also learnt that said lights work much better when you remember to take the battery off the charger and attatch it to the bike

I learnt today if it is cold and looks like rain, it will rain and you will get cold. My legs my legs, I can't feel my legs.
