Noticed a shocking noise in the spec this morn. Sounded like the BB was creaking really bad. Threw her up on the stand for a clean b4 and noticed a massive crack on the bottom tube near the front bottle holder. It is cracked almost right around! Its only 7000km old and around 9 months old. Alloy frame..........Goooone. Into the shop 2mora for a check up and send it to factory. I sure hope they cover it or il be piiiissssed!

Bummer! :(

Is that an Aluminium frame, and it cracked mid tube? I can understand at a weld but not mid tube. I am sure they will replace it pronto, maybe even get a free upgrade.

Did it spend much time on a trainer?

I suppose with the competition by manufacturers to make lighter frames this is going to happen from time to time.

You're supposed to just state the obvious and then let them draw their own conclusion.

Was it Porche that once was quoted as saying something like the ideal race car finishes the race first then immediately fall apart?

Yep, those alloy frames - nowhere near as good as CF.

Scary - every time I hear a creak on my ride I'm always worried I've cracked something - can't imagine what would happen if it was to crack and open up down a hill

Although, then again it's a great excuse to buy a new ride :P (To Fiance: "You don't want me riding a cracked bike and falling do you?!")

The level of worship and demonising of materials that goes on in this forum is amazing. Seriously.... its like a religious debate or something!!

You can't single out this forum for it. All forums are susceptible to this fervour about frame materials. We keep it civilised though (mostly ...).

You're catching on. Best avoid these type of threads if it upsets you. For most of us it is just a bit of entertainment. In reality we will end up buying what we want regardless.

+1.

Also to see what's the latest novel argument people can come up with for their preferred material. Often it's good for a laugh or one can learn a thing or two.

Luckily for you it's only an imitation carbon-based life form.

You could attach the rodent to any material frame, just use a zip tie around his neck
