So your telling me if you came across a car pulling out in a tight car park and other cars waiting for him, you'd ride straight past them and in front of the car pulling out becaude he should have seen through the cars and seen you coming and given way?

I’ve been thinking about this a bit since seeing the original post. You seem to be saying it was dumb because he left himself open to being hit by the car? It took me a while to realise/think of that.

My original take is that car was attempting to leave parking spot on busy street. Other cars had pulled up as a courtesy thing to allow this ( common enough, I reckon we’ve all done it). Cyclist saw this, but asserted his rights and continued on, therefore either dumb or discourteous.

Either way, a mistake imo. Stopping would have cost him what? 20 seconds of his time? Where have I heard this before? Don’t matter, he lived, car lived, all is good.

I witnessed a near miss and two crashes on Willunga Hill. The near miss was when I was climbing and a spectator dropped a roll of tape and just ran across the road to fetch it while a riding descending just missed the idiot. The two crashes were near the top when riders descending had spectators step across the road without looking.

Yeah its the same incident, front and back views.

The descending rider was going too fast for the conditions. With that many riders and spectators he should have been more cautious.

I'd say there may be some contributory negligence on the part of the descending rider, but primary fault lies with the person crossing the road without ensuring that it is clear. Unless the road was closed or otherwise, the descender should have the expectation that they would be OK as long as they rode within the law.

I had an encounter today. As I approached an intersection to turn left there was a rotund gentleman making his way across, slowly, against the red.
I call out "hurry up", then pass around behind him and make my turn.
He told me off for taking the corner too fast.
(Note - he wasn't crossing the road into which I was turning, which would have required me to give way even if he was crossing illegally. He was crossing the road I was turning from, where I had a green light if I was going straight ahead.)

Reconciliation Road, Prospect pedestrian crossing yesterday at around 5:45pm - pedestrian goes bounding across the road at high speed totally disregarding the red pedestrian lights. Why the shock?

For me and the car drivers, it was a huge kangaroo leaping across there at full speed. I've seen this kangaroo before and it is particularly fearless, but I can't imagine the car drivers would have expected seeing this enormous thing go across. It then proceeded to bound along heading east up the cycleway at high speed. I had already stopped upon seeing it and watched it go tearing past me and up the hill.

Quite something to see especially in a semi-suburban area.

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a Molotov cocktail was thrown into a St Kilda car park on 24 January.
A man has entered the first level of the Canterbury Road hotel car park and threw the device just after 8am.
The Molotov cocktail has exploded and caused a small fire that did not cause any damage.
The man then fled the area on a bicycle.
Investigators have released an image of man they believe can assist with their enquiries.

Now why would a pedestrian expect to see a bike there? On a bike path? On Land Street? Leading to the tunnel and the Bicentennial Bikeway which is literally the most cycled bit of real estate in Queensland?

I would be letting that one slide. You gotta expect that when jumping from road to path.

TBH it looked like the ped was planning on exiting the path, at least she performed a head check for potential overtakers first.

That bloody tree immediately after the entrance to the path is a mongrel of a sightline frogger tho...
