Why oh why do people continue to use this map without presenting the history of the area along the very timeline given? Seriously, this is a very bad example to be using.

Don't tease us F & O - tell the story! I can't say too much because I am working off a yellow card, but, as far as I know, you are OK.fat and old wrote: Why oh why do people continue to use this map without presenting the history of the area along the very timeline given? I'm sure that more information could be found easily enough with a search engine, but I am not inclined to do so.
Cheers,

I wish I had more time to vary my commute and take some alternative routes although not many choices to get through the city from the south.
Glad you can relate to them!

Yesterday I woke up early, then fell back to sleep, so missed the best ride hours.
Got out about 7.30a. Within a km, I had to unclip for a red light.
got my foot down onto the road....then my left ankle just buckled (foot turned inwards) and before I knew I was on the tarmac.
probably a combo of being tired, and the road sloping down to the gutter and cleats.
Have never done anything like that before.
THere were are a few cars to my right, but they all chose to look away.
Ah well....ya win some ya lose some.

A work mate did that in the wet. The foot slipped and he ended up breaking his legCKinnard wrote:I got to get to sleep earlier.

Fortunately a Vet came along, unfortunately the Vet shot him.jasonc wrote:A work mate did that in the wet. The foot slipped and he ended up breaking his legCKinnard wrote:I got to get to sleep earlier.

some surgery, I'd rather have a Vet do on me.PA wrote:Fortunately a Vet came along, unfortunately the Vet shot him.
they tend to be more humane than many surgeons I know.

That's not the first time that part of the path has been covered in deep sand, I've had to walk over it more than once. I drove past there this morning and I could see the erosion on the hill from the road, I knew the path would be coveredpj wrote:

Road bike pedals are not a good idea for commuting.pj wrote:Self nomination, two clipless moments this week, at least the second one was in the sand lol

It seems like that hill is just one big sand dune, it only takes a tiny amount of rain to cover the path with sand. I went through there once in the dark, hit a patch of sand and nearly came off so I try and take it easy these days.mikesbytes wrote:That's not the first time that part of the path has been covered in deep sand, I've had to walk over it more than once. I use them all the time for commuting (around 60km every day) - you just unclip one foot when you think it is necessary to slow down. I also don't filter between lanes.biker jk wrote:

Meanwhile, a Dutch cyclist nearly ends up under the wheels of a passenger train:
https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real- ... 9de21f0aae
He goes around the barriers, waits for the freight train to go through but doesn't see the passenger train coming the other way. How silly could you be to not wait until you have clear vision?

I'm with biker jk, when you get to your destination its convenient to be able to walk around. My road, TT and track bike have 3 bolt pedals but everything else has 2 bolt or even nothing (short distances). Not that its a biggie, personal choice, a bit like which beer is the bestpj wrote:Yes can be annoying when filtering and moving in slow traffic, I'm generally ok except when I forget about thembiker jk wrote:Road bike pedals are not a good idea for commuting.

I like the beer analogy, any beer is better than no beer. I'll cycle any bike rather than sit in traffic!mikesbytes wrote:I'm with biker jk, when you get to your destination its convenient to be able to walk around. A better analogy is the camera one. The best camera is the one you have with you. I.e. the best bike is the one you have to ride right nowpj wrote:
