It is times like those that I think carrying along the extra kilo my Kryptonite D-lock weighs would be worth it.

Gusbuster,

i stay well away from parks during long weekends...as peoples gray matter is switch off and holidaying somewhere in la la land.

Having a good ride this evening, winding down almost back to my car (drive to my favourite ride spots....distance prevents me from riding there), i have the lights on, i signal that i'm turning left and old mate in a red ute who is waiting to turn left out onto farnborough road from the beachside car park (gave me a nod of thanks to!) when some cretin who has oozed out of the shallow end of the gene pool pulls up alongside the ute wanting to turn right  . Didn't give me much room between his landcruiser and the gutter. Between hanging on and a bit of POTA (Phenomenon Of Twitching A*sehole) i only thought afterwards that a whack up the side of his car would have been more effective than a filthy look. Next time

Riding along about 30m from a roundabout I signal and claim the lane. Next thing I know a (roughly)65 yo female driver decides I don't exist and tries to push past me. I have to stop but she's right on my a*se , maybe 1m behind me and a car is turning through the roundabout in front of us. She damn near forcerd me into the path of the car.

Then she has the gall to shake her head at me... stupid woman.

Oh and another elderly driver decides me being in the middle of the lane signalling I'm turning right is irrelevant... proceeds to drive past me and turn right into the same street. A gentle couple of taps on his rear passenger door later he brakes hard and looks around.

I have no idea what he was thinking but it seemed to scare the daylights out of him.

I had an old lady drive behind me for a few hundred meters. She was sitting right up my backend and was beeping her horn. There was plenty of room for her to overtake me (the other lane) but she didn't want to even tho I waved my armas a gesture for her to go around. After a bit I thought buggar it and stopped the bike in the middle of the road next to an island. She stopped and was stuck in between the island and kerb while I stood there for a few minutes asking what her problem was. She kept beeping her horn and gestering for me to get off the road so I stood there for a bit longer while I wrote down her number plate. In the meantime other cars were banking up and started beeping their horns as well.
Eventually I got back on the bike and road down the middle of the road with her beeping along behind me. She and most of the traffic turned off at the next roundabout while I went straight ahead.
She got a call from the Police later that day :)

I carry a pen and notepad in one of my pockets for such purposes. Then I look at the trip meter and add the time and look for a street sign to add the place :) It also helps if you can get a description of the driver :)

I can't wait when minature camcorders are cheap as chips, as one mounted on the front bars and one mounted under the saddle would be heplful with recording traffic conflicts.

Me either. i've had a few occasions where they'd come in very handy.
Also need to get a jersey made with

Had one of these a couple of weeks ago on The Esplanade near Henley SLS, heading north at those little roundabouts, but mine was a bloke in a red mini accelerated and pushed past at the roundabout after I signalled him to wait, and pushed alongside into the turn. How close?
Well, I reached out easily and thumped his rear side window.
He didn't like that, weaved over the road trying to get a fix on me, slowed down, speeded up, went red in the face, wanted to continue the 'discussion' then buggered off sharpish when he looked in his rear view mirror...

so thanks to the three very large mean looking tri guys on TT bikes who'd seen the whole thing and steamed up to help out if things went conventional. I don't think baldy McF**kstick liked those odds so much.

Walking over to the shop this morning to get food/drink, and this guy stops in the carpark and puts his car into reverse. Unfortunately, he'd just passed over a pedestrian crossing, and now reversed back over it WHILE PEOPLE WERE CROSSING. Luckily he was going slow, so no-one got hit... but FFS, how stupid can you be?

In this country I think it's compulsory if you want a drivers license :)

Moron 1: Ute driver (no surprise!) who overtakes whilst I'm turning from Heidelberg Road into Upper Heidelberg Rd in Ivanhoe. I've claimed the left turn lane as experience has led me to ensure nobody tries to go around me but no, he decides to turn left from the straight through lane and almost swipes me.

Moron 2: Headng down Studley Rd outside the Austin hospital towards Burgundy St, moron 2 beeps me as I've taken the traffic lane. This area is usually very congested and trying to navigate from the bike lane to the right turn lane is a feat worthy of a Victoria Cross. But no, Mr Moron decides to undertake me on my left. Well actually he had the nerve to wind down the window and abusem e for not riding in the bike lane. I responded with my intentions of turning right and suggested he learn to be patient and share the road!

For those that know Curtin Avenue on a weekday morning...

I was doing about 35k on the stretch north of the Jarrad St lights, ie. about 5k slower than the traffic. At Forrest St a Corolla just passes me, brakes and cuts left in front of me. As in about 30cm in front of me. I yell, as you do, and watch as it turns right onto Marmion. Aha, it's the Marmion shortcut, trying to avoid the Eric St lights and the school crossing.

Normally I'd peel off and take the PSP through Swanbourne and Claremont but I took a chance and figured I might catch it coming out of North St. Not a kilometre up the road I spot it coming out of Grant St. Goody!; two sets of lights and the second one was red when I got there and our burgundy Corolla was second back in the left lane, Aaand the way the traffic was running we had plenty of time to talk.

To the young female driver's credit she wound down her window and was very apologetic.
And maybe a little surprised that a human powered vehicle could beat her even though she knew all the backroad trix :!: I hope she ended her day a little less moronic than she started

How about murderous motorists? This is from the facebook page You dont pay rego.....so ride ur bike on the !! BAN ME NOW FOR SWEARING !! FOOTPATH

Would it be worth keeping a record of these crazies and their comments? If they ever hit a cyclist and are taken to court, their remarks on facebook might come in handy in supporting an intent to harm

Last night some idiot in a Lancer thought it would be a grand idea to sit behind me in his car while honking his horn repeatedly. I was with two other people, riding single file on a very quiet road - the right lane was completely free - but no, he'd rather display his obvious masculinity. We caught up to him at the lights but he cut through a servo and drove off. Weak.

Oh, and the day before yesterday I was heading down Collier Road in the bike line, approaching a red light. Someone was waiting at the lights in the right lane a decided to go into the left lane whilst completely blocking the bike lane. This happened when I was about 2 metres from the back of his car. I was centimetres from going up the back of him.

That group was just scary. What surprised me is the number of the fairer sex who seem to have major anger management issues! As for people claiming to deliberately hit cyclists, or anyone using their precious roads, they should pay a visit to the local hospital just for a quick reality check. Oh and the group has over 12k members!

The other day i was tailgated and aggressively beeped at for claiming a lane ...my reaction like Colin was to squeeze the brakes to a complete dead stop in the middle of the lane without even looking at who was beeping me...i then uncleated and walked up to the drivers window and asked ( firmly but not rude or aggressive in tone) what their problem was...not my most brightest moments in life but it felt damn good letting the driver know i have every right with being on the road as they do...oh yeah...their response to my question for those interested was i should be at all times close to the gutter...additionally...i took offence to her body language and clear message that i was in the wrong ... prrfftt...unbelievable...as a safe speed on this particular narror road is about 30kph due to its limited size...fwiw...if the driver would of given me a polite beep beep instead of speeding up and giving me a 5-10 second blast up my arse then i would've gladly let them past event free.

I had a near miss with a tradie in a white ute on Wednesday. First time I have ever had a poblem with a tradie not doing his job :) I was cruising along The Esplanade (runs along the Canning Rv) in Mount Pleasant when Mr tradie is his reliable white ute decided to start pulling out in front of me. I said "don't even F&^%$#(AT)! think about it" and he responded by saying something along the lines of "you wanna get f&^%$#(AT) run down you f*&^%$# c*&^, I'll f*&^%$#(AT) run you and all your f7&^%$#(AT) cycling mates down you f&^&%^$# c*&^. I looked ahead and kept cycling. No way I was going there :)

Yeah I reckon it would be worth keeping track of these idiots. Perhaps one day I might find a couple of them in a back alley and give them a firm lecture
But back to the point, it would be vital evidence in a Police case against them if they are every involved in an accident with a cyclist. It shows a clear case of premeditation and the wanton need to deliberately cause harm to other road users. It would also mean the difference between manslaughter and murder charges should someone be killed.

The question is tho, how do we keep track of them and do we inform the Police now?

If you look back at the thread now, it looks like soemone's already on the job of keeping an archive.

I've also just tossed in a hand grenade. I'm off to get some popcorn  :
What a bunch of whinging crybabies! Oh, the cyclist slowed me down ten seconds so I couldn't get to the next red light ahead of the other tards in their smoke box!

Well, here's the news: your rego doesn't pay for road maintenance or construction. If it's an RTA road, that comes from consolidated revenue. That's income tax and GST allocation from the fed. If it's a local street, that's covered by property owners rates and taxes. If it's a greenfield residential estate, the developer bears the cost.

So harden up princesses, and get over it. Bike riders are here to stay. On the road. Where they belong.

It's not a secret that reserved only for the intelligent: if you get a bike you can use the road for free too!
Apologies to Graeme: your line was too good not to use :D
