Screen seems a little dull at first but I have no issues with glare and outside of the menu's it's quite easy to read.

Don't use the GPS ( navigation ) on the road but it's quite readable in the car with a mount.

This is my theory in general when it comes to local versus OS purchases, and not just for electronic items. If the price difference isn't too large, and especially if it's from a local "small" store rather than a chain store, then I'll support the local guy.

This is starting to get off topic (but I did buy my Edge 500 from Rob, so that'll pull it back on topic a little!). And I'm saying this simply as a simple happy camper, not a paid stooge :)

K..I have an odd problem. I am unsure how my GPS reset itself (did i press one button too long  )but all my bike details have disappeared for some reason??? For example, it normally displays the wheel size etc for each bike in the toolbox button area but now it doesn't??

What do you do?

I've weakened and bought a full bundle version from my LBS! He did me a great price and I've spent the last 3 hrs online playing instaling and generally mucking with the unit :) :)

Riding tomorrow its not on the bike yet but will be after the race no more time :)

Not to do with 800, but in support of local sellers, just had a HRM for a 500 replaced under warranty by HTA. Quick & efficent service.
Distance Goal 4000km

"With it off, put your finger in the upper left hand corner and turn it on while keeping your finger there. If it works you will loose all your personal settings unless you back them up, but you may not be able to do that anyhow. You do that by attaching it to your PC via your USB cable and saving the cycling.fit, settings.fit and even locations.fit files if you set up a location such as your home. If you can copy them and the hard reset works, you can put these files back and not have to re-do all your settings."

Unless you can run some recovery software on the Garmin "drive" to recover the necessary .fit files, it will be easier to re-enter the settings.

If you find out how to manually enter the odometer let us know :)

Is the 800 much different to the 500? At least with the 500 there's a setting to set the odometer buried somewhere under the per-bike settings.

Cheers,
Simon.

Does the 800 come with 2 mounts like the 705 did?

I paid $551 from my LBS for the bundle with maps, cadence and heart rate. The retail is $649 I was pretty happy with that price as I know other shops won't give the same discount as other products, from reading between the lines there is not as much margin in them as some other items.

Local Australian model comes with a few things extra over wigggle.

1. 2 bike mounts
2. Aust adapter
3. Australian warranty. (They are getting tougher on intended distribution)

at HTA, we add
4. Free silicon case
5. Unlimited telephone support.

Also the wigggle kit may or may not come with correct mapping (someone may wish to clarify).

Thanks Marty, I paid pretty much the same price from my LBS in Perth for the bundle with Topo etc. Very happy with the price but think this is the cut off where any lower is not worth the LBS selling it. I know of a well known bike shop in ADL city that also had them for $550 when I was there for the TDU.

New bike ( no2 ), setup 2nd profile on garmin, prior to ride went into bike setup and picked second profile, said "current"

Did ride as usual, start etc. etc. ( noticed something funny, ride time was blank )

Get home reset session

Go into history nothing there?

Anyone else have an issue with a second bike not recording?

Gururug, to select the active profile (on an 800, I don't know what you've got), just push the main button (the power button on the left hand side of the unit) once and it will put you into a screen where you can select which profile you want. I've called mine "Cannondale" and "Specialized". So if I've used it on the Cannondale and want to select the Specialized profile, I go into this menu. There's a big button called "Cannondale". I click it then click the Specialized button. This has always worked for me. Is this the process you followed?

Cheers max, I was going to the bike profiles page where you edit the settings, when you go into a bike (edit) it changes to current.

Will give that way a go :)

No problem today, so it's not the new bike / profile.

One thing that did happen yesterday, after I started the ride, it was still navigating...recalculating etc. etc. ( don;t like that while riding ) so I went into whereto -> stop navigating.

This may have stopped the session without saving. But I started later on then reset ( saved )....weird, we'll call it the no time elapsed mystery

Does anyone else use the auto-scroll function? I find that it would auto-scroll for a while nicely, and after a while (1/2 hour?) freeze on the map page. Touchscreen stops responding. But, single press on the power button, brings it to the power menu, where you can press the X and it will continue as it should. This is with FW 2.1
