Ranking page for the 6K, 10K and Fit Git comps
Postby caffeine » Thu Feb 03, 2011 9:49 pm
Inspired by Philip's excellent work in the signature images for BikeJournal progress, and the infamous 'red triangle', I've knocked something together for rankings from BikeJournal, both ACF/BNA in total (which I believe is effectively Fit Gits) and the sub competitions (6K and 10K).
http://www.ipeddle.net/bna/rankings.php
Have a play, let me know if it seems useful. It will auto-update overnight each night (similar to Philip's signature images), and the 'red arrow' line in the table for the comps will move accordingly.
Going forward it should have daily history as well, so I can do up some more fancy stuff around trends once there is sufficient data to make it look properly.
I've managed to solve the riddles matching up the BJ names with forum names for the vast majority. If I have any wrong or if you know who one of the 'blanks' is let me know and I'll update it. Tomorrow I'll knock up a page so that you can change those things yourself.
If you join the ACF group at BikeJournal you will automatically be added to the correct ladders, but your forum name will most likely need updating.
Any suggestions for what else would be handy, or feedback let me know here!
Probably best to keep the 'gauntlet' challenge type discussions in the relevant threads, but this might make it a bit easier to see who your competition is!
Cheers!
Caff.
EDIT: I'll be doing some tidying up and adding of stuff to the page from time to time, so if it's broken or comes up looking weird some time I'm probably playing, give it 10 minutes and I should have finished If it's more than 15 minutes post here.

Caff, i think you have just opened a can of worms. It doesn't look pretty further down the table. But nice job. So does numero uno get a medal at the end of the year or is it just perpetual bragging rights?

No prize I don't think, although I could put some pretty sparkles on their name and a gold jersey for next year!CommuRider wrote:Lol

I wouldn't have put it up if I wasn't sitting near the bottom myself, happily in the 200's so no personal gain LOL.
Now.... to get a mod to fix my silly mistake and move this to General rather than commuting...
EDIT: Which Christine did whilst I was mid-post. Thankyou!

Not really... although my web dev skills are 3 years rusty.lovemybike wrote: Really good caffeine! Thanks for doing that, must have taken a bit of time!
The longest bit was matching the forum user id's to the bikejournal ones, required a bit of detective work in some cases LOL.
It's a step in the right direction. My next item is to write something to collate my rides easily and in a way I like. Having seen MapMyRide, BikeJournal and some others each have good points and bad points. Certainly I plan to have it so that I can add an email address to Cyclemeter so that when the ride completes it emails through, then it gets sucked into the recorder (and injected into BikeJournal). Mostly because I am lazy and find updating things in multiple places troublesome.
If it works nicely and I set up GPX and KML uploads I might share it.
In the interim if there is anything people would like to make their lives easier let me know! I'm a newbie so I can't contribute much advice, and am not a mechanic so can't help there, so 'puter stuff is about my only way of doing my share

And done... the 'Actual' column now contains an extrapolated figure in brackets which is the end of year total if you continue at your current rate.caffeine wrote: Actually I might add that in...

No I don't, but I am surprised at the number of MX-5 drivers on a bike forum!

thats pretty cool caffeine, i cant believe i'm where i'm at on the table , i was going to be proud if i made 6666km , now everyone thinks i can make close to 15000 , that is a big ask especially when winter comes, but at the moment i will enjoy the time on the bike, clocked another 56km today on a group ride, so i will just continue on and keep lovin the rides at the moment.caffeine wrote:Yup! Yup, goals are updated from BJ nightly. Realistically the 'clubs' are just those that have their goal set to the defined amounts, so if it is set to 10000 or 6666 they automatically 'join' that club.Mustang wrote:Great incentive, can one transfer to a higher club,if their goal distance is raised?
I can always add more, and I think also it might be nice to have ladders based on grouping other than goals. Commuter cup for example. I'll have to see if I can do a similar thing from the site they use to record rides, but there may be 'groups' we want to have that don't have a set or common goal. An example might be state based rankings.
Any suggestions or thoughts bring them on!
