The Australian distributer, Jet Black has been named and it means that the camera's will also shortly be available in local bike shops for $275 (RRP)
Thanks Chriss,I look forward to the review.
It will be interesting to see the effect of the narrower field of view. It is always a bit of a jaundiced view with my rear Sony when a car is beside the bike, yet if you want the best pic it has to be set at the wider angle. Most cameras in the 720 res have to be that way to get a decent pic and that is probably a motivating factor for fly6 to close down the field of view.
So the cam will get a better picture but less sideways field of view.
I hope the future front cam will retain a 120 field though.... :)

The new K-Edge Mount didn't last long. .. It decided to part company with the bike.
The garmin 1000 bounced well but Sony camera case didn't.
I have sent them a message but I guess the weight of the garmin plus the camera being further out front had caused extra stress to the arm. .. Although you would have thought this would have been well tested.

I'm always ASTOUNDED at how much stresses are induced in mounts over long periods of bump bump bump.

If anything i'd call poor engineering on the mount manufacturer, having a load waaay out from the attachment point isnt good.

I'd swap over - something like:

Keep in mind that with the plastic will introduce more movement - so if used for a camera, not optimal. For a light or computer it is an option.

Regarding K-Edge, the bolts arn't very nice. Far too soft and I can't even undo a linkage bolt.

I usually run just this - K-Edge Go Big Pro with universal mount (for Sony action cam)

But for my MTB set up this, the Go Big and the Go Big Universal mount adapter. The bolt linking is so soft, even with proper Allen Keys the bolt has failed miserably, and is now miserably stuck. This has been a long term criticism of K-edge, they use substandard bolts that are subject to wear.

The clamp section was still on the handlebars, the arm has just broken...and the setup was used only 3 or 4 times

It's not the first K-Edge mount reported broken.

Here's another.

Yes, was refering to your Amazon plastic thingy.

Yes and no.

Yes to reduce the forces / stresses which may lead to a failure, a top mount is a better solution. It compresses rather than 'tears apart'.

No because a top mount takes room above the bars which I personally don't like as I want a more compact less prominent position, plus for MTB learnt the lesson [see video] that you want to mount it out of the way to avoid trashing your camera and mount.

The Go Big style mounts without the arm are better in that there is less leverage effect, however I prefer the extended are for the Go Big Pro versions because the camera extends forward, past the cables and clears space directly below the bars (more hand room, and in some cases, you can knock you knees against anything mounted below).

Darn it! I'll have to put a safety lanyard back on the camera now!

Any recommendations for decent (preferably free!) video editing software that works on a 64-bit Wintel 8.1 platform?

Unfortunately using MovieMaker crashes with larger files.

I use Avidemux for basic editing on both Mac OS and Windows 7 (just cutting chunks out of video and basic pasting - very basic but it works). Hopefully work on W8.1 and its freeware so nothing to lose in trying.

Hi trailgumby this is what fly6 likes.

I have tried it and its very good to start with. All the different programs have a bit of a learning curve and they have a reasonable help area.

For the premium K-Edge mounts they are a premium pain in the butt.
This is a Go Big mount with a universal adapter and a very stubborn, sub-quality bolt.

Using good allen keys, the bolt is simply too soft and very quickly wore out so that the Allen keys wouldn't work.
The destructive method (1) to remove is to cut a slit with a metal saw and unscrew with a screw driver.

Nope. The metal is to soft that it just deforms. (The photo is halfway through the cut, so was deeper).
I have always complained that the bolts used are poor - unfortunately this is unusable now which is a pit as it wasn't that old and they are not cheap.

Hey guys,

Whats the best gopro mount for all conditions including MTB trails?

Looked at handlebar mounts but a lot seem to break.. Would the best option be the chest mount?

I prefer chest mount for MTB trails. It's a more stable platform for the viewer. I made my own from the GoPro base late which forms part of the packaging and it fits over the chest strap and I fitted a couple of extra straps to the base of the shoulder straps to hold it down.

I got my new fly last week! yay. I was using it to ride to work and back but it conked out at approx. 1 hr 30 mins. The light still worked but the film just cut out. does that mean I just need to buy a bigger memory card? I used the one it came with.

Ideally I need 2 hours a day and I thought I read somewhere it did it. but mine hasn't run anywhere near that amount of time.
I usually use the light on the brightest setting too if that makes any difference
