Different due to the different dimensions of the GoPro itself comparing Hero2 to the Hero3 series.

I'm thinking RAM Mount currently but if someone has a better idea, btw seatpost view is blocked by a Carradice Camper Longflap. Could possibly make a platform on my tubus rack to put it there as well.
Where abouts on the bike do you want it looking back? kEdge make seat bracket mounts so the camera sits underneath the seat facing behind so that wouldn't work. But they also make custom bracket mounts that you can attach to things such as a rack or something.

What I'm thinking is placing it on my rear stays and using the following from ram mount
1" Ball with Ssteel U-bolt
Standard Double Clamp B Size
GoPro Camera Adapter 1" Ball

You could use the tripod mount and mount it to your rear quick release, http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewt ... 27&t=47412" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; scroll down to mount 8 to get an idea.

Works like a charm

I brought the Electus HD Sports Camera from Harvey Norman for $78. JB HiFi had a special(-20%) on Sandisk so got the class 10 16GB micro for $27.50.
Tried the handlebar mount this afternoon and while the quality looks good, there is plenty of 'jelly-moulding' in the video and case noise through the audio. Will probably move to a helmet mount to eliminate those, at the expense of looking like a snork.

Plenty of play to be had and looking forward to a commute and viewing the results.

You may find that this is because the fps at 720 is only 30 fps. Going by the page here you can only get 60 fps at 640 x 480.

See the new videos posted to the mango thread. Not so sure about the quality of video glass camera used in a couple of those videos.

They're the same. I have my GoPro 1 battery bacpac and battery plugged into my GoPro 3, kept in place with the GoPro1 bacpac door connected to the GoPro 3 housing. I hope that makes sense?

For those that use an iPhone this little app maybe of interest. It is called Vidometer Data Overlay.

This be the glasses I'm thinking of. Imging X2 ones. Seems to give a reasonable video. Use the stabilise feature in youtube and UGH

Hi,
Ordered a silver edition gopro 3 from Amazon on the 28th and got it today woohoo...... :-)

So..... Just wondering what the best settings are for using it on the bike?

The manual doesn't really tell you much.

Cheers

Congrats :-)

Firstly, you need to grab hold of the manual (PDF from GoPro.com) so you know how to make the following changes.

Turn off wireless. Ensure Pro Tune is turned off. Both drain the battery pretty heavily.

Next, change the video setting to PAL. Then change to 720 (AT) 25 wide. I found the battery drain pretty heavy at highest res and I don't need it.

I also use auto power off when idle for 60 seconds.

Most of the other settings by default are fine.

You will also need to make sure your battery is fully charged and then apply the firmware upgrade. Just follow the instructions, it is pretty easy. I had all sorts of problems until I upgraded the firmware.

If you ride for more than 90 minutes you'll probably be looking at buying the extra battery bacpac. The new battery is not as good as the previous battery.

Other than that, have fun and let us know how you go :-)

Hi,
Thanks for the info.

Already got hold of the manual, started browsing through it before the camera got here.

Did the firmware upgrade first thing, it seems to of upgraded ok.

Will just change some settings.

Can't try it on the bike until my handlebar mount gets here, wasn't thinking and didnt order it with the camera. Doh...
Hopefully turn up on Friday.

Cheers

808 #16 V2 D-lens at night on well and unlit shared path. No post editing except what utube does to it, if anything.
Not too shabby for a $40 camera. Helmet mounted on top of twin tight focused MacGyvered lights.

For those considering a GoPro HD Hero 3 or a Sony HDR-AS10 Techmoan has done a 40 minute review video comparing the two cameras.

Hi,
Decided to brave the flies this morning and took the gopro out for a test ride.

Overall video quality seems good. Set on 720*25.

Only problem is a lot of road vibration, which makes the video look wavey, best way to describe it.

Is there any way of fixing this on a mac computer?

Other thing I noticed was a lot of road noise and no commentary.

Does the other door help with noise and microphone pickup?

And for some strange reason it split the ride into 2 videos stopped and restarted at 26.14mins, is that a setting somewhere?

Cheers

If the 25 is fps that is likely to be your problem. You need to shoot at 60 fps.

Hi,

That was the settings that were mentioned to me in a previous post. Will give 60fps a go next ride.

Thanks for the info.

On my mount for the rear progress
Got some ABS sheet which I've got 2 sections and used PVC cement on which has bonded it extremely well. It has come up extremely stiff now but does have some flex in it.
Time to get some cut off that is the correct size and bond 3-4 bits together and that will give my platform
Dual lock on the rack and on the ABS will stop any vibration of the mount. Then I'll stick an adhesive mount on and my gopro will face rear then :) Just waiting on dual lock to arrive, got it from ebay and gotta love the store I bought it from. As I'm a repeat customer they doubled the amount of dual lock I ordered

Hi,
Just changed the settings and with the camera set on Pal which was suggested it should be in can only set it to 720*50fps no sign of 60fps.

Is there something else that needs changed?

NTSC is the video frequency used for monitors/TVs in USA, PAL is used almost everywhere else including Australia. PAL will only show in 25fps and 50fps. I would suggest the number of frames recorded per second (FPS) is not your problem but rather your mount is the problem.

I have two GoPros. One on my helmet and one facing backwards from the seat post. The one on my helmet never had the problems you mentioned (wavy/jumpy recording) but the one on the rear did. I cut up an old inner tube and placed some of it between the seat post and clamp/mount. The absorption of vibrations stopped the problem.

Recording at 50fps will simply double the number of frames recorded per second. The best use for this high rate of recording is for when you wish to show slow motion video. More FPS may also help less "judder" as you're filming more but also draining the battery more.

Regarding the stopped video, I'm not sure. Try a few more recordings to see if the problem can be replicated.

If you really want to change to 60fps, change to NTSC.
