2008 targets/New Years Bicycle resolutions

Postby Deanj » Sat Dec 01, 2007 4:31 pm

Been thinking about a few personal targets for next year the last couple of weeks and just wondering if anyone else has. Yeah I know we're only in the start of December but with how quick 2007 has seemed to have disappeared, New Year is going to be here by the time I've finished typing this. Heres mine so far that I've thought of.... (I may steal some of your ideas and add to this)

* 12000kms
* Enter every race of the 2008 MTB winter series
* Enter some road bike races (just not possible to do every one due to where I live and when I can get the car)
* Enter the Foxy 1000
* I'd like to have a go at trying to finish a solo 24hr MTB race, got to see when they are in SA though first. (crazy idea but I've worked for over 24 hours constantly a few times so at least it would be doing something I enjoy)
* Spend less money on cycling (otherwise I may be single :( )

I certainly have - so here are my '8 for 2008'.

First up, the bike ones:

1. Ride the TdU Challenge stage with a couple of the SA forum members :wink:
2. Finally do the Canberra to the Coast ride that I planned for this year :)
3. Get the team back together for the Scott 24 Hour - and do more than 23 laps this time :D
4. Ride the Hartley Lifecare Cycle Challenge again - and beat the curfews :D :D
5. Make the move up to E-grade with the Vets :lol:

... and some 'non-bike' ones

6. Teach both my teenagers to drive :shock:
7. Fix my garden :roll:
8. Tighten up the abs :oops:
Litespeed Classic - 3Al/2.5V titanium tube set, Record 9-speed groupset, Open Corsa Evo CX
Alchemy Diablo - Columbus Zonal tubing, Ultegra 9-speed groupset, UltraGatorskins
Gitane Rocks T1 - U6 tubing, Deore/XT groupset, CrossMarks

I guess it's that time of year, hey...

1) Ride the century... I got 80% of the way this year, but I am gonna get the full distance under my belt soon.

2) Commute! I have been talking about it for ages, and I just bought myself a decent set of headlights... running out of excuses!

3) Build my own bike. I recently picked up a lovely Diamand Back Racing frame, which I will turn into my go-fast modern bike.

4) Continue to have 'no car' weekends where I do all my necessary fetching and carrying on the MTB.

5) Organise a group of colleagues for the Sydney to Wollongong ride.

6) Finally... try to understand what my HRM is telling me.

cheers,
Marcus

1)Start riding to work most days
2)Not utterly stuff up my appreniceship
3)Buy a bike or two and a bit of stuff w/this new concept of "pay packet"
4)Get better at mountain biking, so I'm not holding my mates up for so long they call me to see if I've crashed or something
5) Get the Apollo resprayed and rebuilt into a wonderful classic bike
6)Try some strange and exotic new gear. First two on the list are the Suntour DuroLux forks and Hayes Stroker Trail brakes
7) Buy my brother a bike (?)

I'll probably think of a few more, but I've already got a few.

1) Keep up the commuting
2) Solo metric century (I've done a century before, but via a group ride)
2) Imperial century
3) Sydney to Canberra in a day

Metric Century on the MTB.

Imperial Century on the Roadie.

Finish the road and dragster projects.

Fully recovered yet? By 'fully', I mean fitness as well as injury repairs.

Fitness is a little down but not too bad. From a cycling viewpoint, my shoulder injury is still a problem, but everything else is OK.

G'day

I suspect this will be incomplete or added to as I think of other objectives, but to start:

(1) Average weekly ride total over the year to exceed 200 km, so 10, 400 km minumim;
(2) Complete a seven day MTB tourer;
(3) Buy a tourer or roadie ... both? Probably the roadie first
(4) Complete an imperial century;
(5) Reach my target weight of 84 kg and then work on getting it down to 80 kg;
(6) Ride the Kep Track
(7) Complete the new section of the Mundi Biddi
( 8 ) Ride in another state of Australia
(9) Find 400 geocaches
(10) Sucessfully restore Condor with minimum involvement of the LBS ... therefore learning some basic bike mechanics;
(11) Out ride Graeme from the City to his place with a full on Fremantle Doctor blowing ... maybe make that a 2010 objective :lol:
(12) Average 25 km/h or higher on my commutes;

1) Imperial Century
2) Try to average 150km weekly for weeks when I'm not working away
3) Maintain weight range of 70 - 72kg and increase muscle mass i.e. reduce fat at same time
4) To continue to enjoy riding
5) To be at least as fit as I am now when I turn the big 40 next year! :cry:

Cheers,

Gary

1; complete the 210km ATB route with the missus
2; Get to my target weight of 82kg's. 5 kg to go but the Chrissy get togethers have already started :?
3; Climb a mountain. Although I was quite proud to get up Mt Danenong, I dont think it truly counts in cycling circles :roll:
4; Keep commuting and don't let this hobby slowly fade away as others have a tendancy to do in my life :oops:

Oh, and try to do 8000ks in the year
The older I get, the better I was...

1. Keep on enjoying the riding.
2. Do a 200km ride and beyond.
3. Become a mean hill climber. :twisted:
4. Improve my racing.
5. Buy a new roadie with better components.
6. Do some more group weekend riding so I don't become too stir crazy with all this solo riding.
7. Ride 15000kms for the year.

1) metric century - iff I don't do it before the year is out

2) 5000km. This year I'll do approx 2750 before the year is out but I want to increase this significantly...

3) get my wife a bike and riding

4) get a BOB trailer (shopping and touring perhaps)

5) get a kiddie trailer for the boy
