groin pain
Postby tatt2 » Tue Dec 04, 2007 12:11 pm
Lately ive been getting a pain in the left groin around 20kms into a ride, once off the bike the pain subsides, first happened on a 80kms ride 4 weeks ago and now wont completely go away, been to the doc who says its a strain but couldnt give me any time frame how long it will take to heal, anyone had the same thing happen and was the cause through not correct seat setup or am i pushing too hard in a high gear and straining, any ideas? anyone

Is it more the inside of the thigh close to where the leg bone's connected to the hip bone? If so, this has been discussed previously and as Graeme and I had the same thing. Mike posted a link to some specific stretches...Graeme did them and he is fixed...I've got them on my list of things to do when I have a moment and still have the problem.
Might be worth doing a search for adductor (I think this is it).

Found the old post (search for "groin" and the post is called Stretching.
From Mr Mike:
Did you go thru the ExRx list of stretches?
http://www.exrx.net/Lists/ExList/ThighW ... hor1943047
and possibly some of the hip flexors stretches

This is the thread in question.
There was also this post by myself which shows where I went to find which muscles were involved:
Cheers,
Graeme

Hope that helps a little.I wrote:Fantastic link there Mike.
I don't know if Moosterbounce has found it yet, but this pagehas the exact muscles which are giving me my grief.
It appears this pagehas the specific stretching exercises for the muscles involved (the Iliopsoas). Why am I so certain it's the correct stretch? Because it looks almost exactly like what I was doing when I caused myself the injury! If I were not flexible and warmed up (which was true in both cases), doing this movement would tear the muscles. And that's what it feels like - a torn muscle. (There are more stretches here for the same muscle - look under "Hip Flexors" about 3/4 of the way down.)
Now, to take the advice of Richard et al and see a doctor and/or sports physio to get advice from them. Then, follow that advice .....
.
Cheers,
Graeme
