Today's ride (Castle Hill to Harbour Bridge and back)

I must admit that I didn't enjoy this ride as much as I thought I would. I mainly got grumpy after reaching the abrupt and un-signposted end of the cycleway alongside Epping Rd at Mowbray Rd and having my first cleat-related slow fall to the ground while stationery. Grumble.

Epping Rd itself is crappy as from Mowbray Rd to Pacific Highway but it is a construction zone I suppose (with the cycleway not too many months off hopefully). Virtually no traffic heading into the city at 7.15 this morning so I got some fresh air while much of Sydney slept in with a hangover.

I was contemplating a commute in to the city later this week since I have a project in there for the next few days but I just wouldn't enjoy the ride in traffic. I'll leave cycling for enjoyment I think.

So much glass on the streets of Kirribilli and North Sydney and no punctures which was a bonus :-). Brekky at the parents was a nice break. I rode over the bridge just because it was there. That bit of cycleway is nice apart from the stairs on the northern side.

Returned via Mowbray Rd and M2 (including the infamous detour). I didn't mind the detour although it was a time-waster, and if there was traffic was around plus parked cars in the North Ryde area it would be slightly more painful. Some pretty steep climbs involved too.

Overall a bit slow because most of this trip was first-time exploration - 24.7 kph. 75.63 km covered in 3 hrs 3 mins.

Ride on Epping Road between Mowbray and Pac Highway is a no no...until cycl path goes in.I always go up Mowbray Road, cross pacific highway and go thru artarmon onto the path after crossing gorehill or turn left at pacific highway if not too busy and take cycleway again at gorehill.

Totally agree about the Epping Rd no no factor 99% of the time. Literally about 10 cars passed me while I was on it so it was extremely light traffic this morning. It wasn't a normal morning :-).

Interesting route Bognoss.

Another option is to do a circuit, go over the Harbour bridge and then take a bike route to Paramatta and then home.
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

Thanks Mike. I might wait until the cycleway link on Epping Road is done and then some sort of loop heading Parramatta-way.

When is the Epping road cycleway due for completion?

I've only ever touched Epping Rd once, between Delhi and Mowbray Rd. Thank goodness it was very early on a Sunday morning and the traffic was extremely light but that didn't stop me from constantly looking over my shoulder because I know what that road is like at different times. Mowbray Rd is definitely the way to go, a couple of nice little hills to sprint up :D

42/21, can I take a guess and say that's your granny gear?
I haven't done it in a while but I'd probably do it with my 52/26, I try and keep any climbing on the large ring now, except the mountains where I use the 42.

Thats my lowest gearing on my race bike which is the one I usually use when coming back from a race out eastern creek way.My trainer runs 39/25 which is a bit easier

Is that the monster 55/42 and 11-21? The one where I wouldn't be able to turn the pedals.

They would be damaged before I'd even think about riding it.
