That's an Audax, not a ride. My sitbones are sore just thinking about it.

I want to know what Dimma thinks of that ride (or is he too busy trying to beat it?)

Very impressive, my advice is to not do 2 or 3 100km rides on consecutive days after, last wk caught up with me this morning

Ethics of Kom'ing your local rides? I searched m suburb and I have about 5 segments that will be easy to take as long as my GPS doesn't go walkabout, but they are clearly not public segments. To raise the bar by 10kmh seems to be cruel. But then again? A penny for your thoughts gents?

Be sure to improve upon the previous KOM by just one second, though ;)

If you can up it by 10kmph and it isn't very popular... why bother. Obviously no one cares about it.
Go for the tough ones... I know the ones that are tough but with in my reach on a great day, then there are the ones way out of reach but I like trying for them as well. Half you guys in Oz seem to cover about 2000 segments on every ride  .

I'm hearing you Ian, the worst is when there are two or even three segments for the one section.
FFS there's like 50 for both Mt Gravatt & Mt Cootha these days

A KOM is a KOM! Go for it. Set the bar high enough that it discourages others. It usually works - with a couple of exceptions. ;)

Just out of curiosity, is there a way of finding out what the longest ride on Strava is? I was checking the stats of that Mario Fonseca guy who is leading the 'Getaway' challenge and saw his longest ride is 499km (and not hanging about either, he had a bunch of cups, a KOM and averaged 28kmh  ) and that got me wondering what the longest ride is that's been uploaded so far? (obviously not counting the ones where people have left the GPS on while flying somewhere).

I think that Aussie Challenge guy would have done a longer day than that.

It is also possible that someone has logged the 2011, 1200km PBP. As a matter of interest the fastest rider that year was Christophe Bocquet. He completed it in 44h 13'

Maybe you could also look for a RAAM cyclists STRAVA account.

Only 50? The M7 must have had hundreds. Borderline useless because a new one pops up every couple of days.
Dan, that is pure evil. Although I think that might be zozza's tactic. I am thinking about leaving early tonight to pick some low lying fruit then. I think some of these things are a bit silly. They require balls of steel to consider taking them - like the most dangerous stretch of road in my area is part of a slow segment. I hit 63 down the slope trying to keep the traffic calm. This is not a recipe for a popular segment.....

Nah, get the KOM and then lobby to have bollards or the like installed "for safety reasons".

Yeah, that is one way too. Go just fast enough to beat them and then have another ride saved for the right occasion to immediately get the KOM back. Or wait for a good tailwind as you say. ;)

Get yourself a lead-out too.

That's on a single Cat 4 climb.
For a basic River loop which is the shortest ride I do, I haven't counted but would be at least 300 segments.

Reid Anderton's biggest day was 537km, I've seen a couple of RAAM riders but they uploaded the files as stages, so from one checkpoint to the next, only a few hundred k at a time. I'll click the 'explore' button and have a look around western france :) .

Yes, but you can star the ones that you are using as your markers now on Strava...easy to find the segments that mean the most to you!

I have one starred for Mt G, Mt C, Nebo and Glorious.
Springbrook, Beechmont and O'Reilly's have less duplicates...not as popular, but they are my favourite climbs 8)

The buggers flag the downhill segments...and take away my chances for a QOM
