Ugly it may be, but it does appear to have some benefits.

Is that a bar-end shifter mounted on the downtube? Hideous.

Those are called down tube shifters. Must be a re-painted frame or a really nostalgic builder.

It's not ugly it's a good looking bike. It just has a strange bar setup, maybe the owner likes riding in the drops.

Down tube shifters almost universally do not have a bend in them, whereas bar-end levers almost as commonly do.

With a conventional stem, bar angle and brake lever position there would be no reason for that bike to be in this thread.

Cameron

That's kind of cool. Is it rigid? What's it made of?

its is made from 2 minute noodles
the manufacturer cautions against riding it in the rain

(actually its plastic - 3D printing bike - its only meant to illustrate a concept rather than a practical working model ... unless you used something stronger than resin to sculpt it)

Yep. And it seems like he isn't game enough to ride it! 3D printing has amazing potential. But using it on items that require strength and lightness and are already mass produced doesn't seem like a productive path to go down.

Wrap it in a skin of carbon fibre sheet to add some stiffness and it "might" be ok.

I think this has probably been posted before but I feel like I won the lottery because I spotted this in the wild yesterday:

Image

I don't know what was worse; the bike or the rider. If I was 5 seconds ahead of where I was I'm sure he would of ploughed in to me flying through a corner. How could I tell anyone I was hit by... that? And even worse how would I get the ugly off me? :P

Even better while googling for pics of the bike I came across this:

Last night I passed a rider with drop bars mounted below flat bars, presumably on 2 stems. Can't say it was necessarily ugly but very unusual at least.

Could be the next big thing in the cycling world.

All joking aside it could be a real hybrid, two in one.
