Re: 10K PLUS club 2012This thread's been a bit quiet so thought i'd chip in....
Did 161 kms today with 3 guys from work to celebrate the fact there was no kid's sport this weekend! We rode down to Rosebud and then went up Arthur's Seat the back way. All three climbed better than I do so I suffered big time! Got home feeling ok but am now really sore in the legs. I leave on Friday for 2 weeks at Byron Bay and intend to ride heaps - hopefully I won't feel like this after every ride! How is everyone's riding going? ![]()
Re: 10K PLUS club 2012
Get used to riding the hills, there's very few flat rides around the BB/Northern Rivers area, unless you want to ride to Lennox Head and back every day The weather otoh should be great for riding! Lisa
Re: 10K PLUS club 20123 beautiful sunny days in Melb with 3 awesome rides, one of which was with Mrs. LTR, life doesn't get any better.
Ye we've bee a bit lazy in regard to posting in here, how's everyone's targets for the year going?? Summers coming so GIDDY UP I say As for data logging I just use my computer then upload to BJ. Hey Stuart how's the running going..... Tim, you still kicking goals up there... Happy Days
Re: 10K PLUS club 2012Just ticked over 8000kms, which puts me 2K ahead of this time last year. Initially planned 12K, then dropped target to 10K, now aiming for 12K again which I should hit easy enough. In good form, enjoying the riding and can't complain with glorious spring weather over the weekend and warmer days ahead.
Also bought a new bike yesterday (fathers day! ), a Cannondale CX bike

Re: 10K PLUS club 2012Hey LTR, glad to hear you're getting some good riding weather. Melbourne is the best city in the world when the weather is good. Growing up in Bayswater and cycling around Boronia, Ferntree Gully and surrounding suburbs as a kid on a BMX and then a road bike was awesome
Still ticking along here in Perth. Cycling and running (yay!) and swimming (yuk!). I was supposed to swim today but CBB. Could have gone for a swim in our street at one stage! Glad to see you guys posting here! This thread has been way too quiet. If we're not careful we'll lose our "stickyness"!!
Re: 10K PLUS club 2012@stuart. Have started running a wee bit to train for the tough muddier challenge next Jan. geez it's kinda boring but a good work out though. Loooove swimming, awesome exercise too.
How's our TAS Devil going... Still kicking goals down there mate..?? Mezla what's going on with you.... Happy Days
Re: 10K PLUS club 2012Boo! That scared you!
Hi guys. Glad to see you are all still chasing the k's. Not doing as much this winter as I did last two years. Lost a bit of the mojo I think. Have had a lot of interference from my work with heaps of pressure and travel to the big island. Also had some time looking after the strife & kisses as she has had a tough 12 months health wise. Plus I had a back injury that kept me off the bike for 3 weeks. And let's not talk about the superfantastic weather. I still ride about 3 times a week and on the trainer if I can't get out but I doubt I will make 10k this year. Looking forward to some warmer sunny days so I can try and get my self back on track. Re: 10K PLUS club 2012Sorry novice
Have to laugh at your post with that signature directly below it! But seriously I hope your run of "non fun events" improves and best wishes to Mrs Novice health wise too.
Re: 10K PLUS club 2012Yep, set my self up for that Bosvit.

Re: 10K PLUS club 2012Hi all,
Question for you.... I have driven from Melb to Byron Bay to have a 2 week holiday with the goal of doing 1,000km. Along the way I stopped in Syd for a check up with Steve Hogg. Very interesting how things have changed since I had my first bike fit with him 6 years ago! My question is; should I post in this thread or start a separate one? I'd like to post here as this is where I feel most at home... Advice please! ![]()
Re: 10K PLUS club 2012I'll jump in and say go for it, be interested to hear what you have to say
Re: 10K PLUS club 2012IMHO....
Post it here. I wouldn't mind reading your comments. Maybe the good people here could give you some initial feedback on your thoughts and then you could add a new thread if you think it's worth it. Cheers, Stuart.
Re: 10K PLUS club 2012Ha just got a post pb on ya Stu

Re: 10K PLUS club 2012Good to hear from you Novice though I hope Mrs. Novice is better and you're work settled for ya.
Gabrielle - post here mate, it's our home Great weekend riding, awesome weather to go with it. Good to see Alberto back in the saddle ad winning to. Gotta love how he dances on the peddles. Love watching him ride (that sounds a bit dodgy me reckon) Happy Days
Re: 10K PLUS club 2012Thanks for the feedback guys, so here goes:
I got bike fitted by Steve Hogg almost 6 yrs ago and thought that, as I was passing through Syd on the way to Byron, it was worth a check up. I was very pleased with the fit back then and got the Baum built to Steve's specs. I have felt very comfortable on it so wasn't expecting much to change this time. Well, was I wrong! Steve has refined and improved what he does since last time. He took out the wedges and risers under my cleats and started from scratch using techniques I hadn't seen before. I ended up with full length orthotic inserts that felt great whilst pedalling. I had been there an hour before I actually got on the bike but once on, he dropped the seat by 5mm and had me pedal some more. Then he dropped it by a further 5mm and moved it further forward before he was satisfied. Boy - does it feel different! All through the process he explains what he is doing and why. He also demonstrates why and it is pretty convincing. He also adjusted my rigid 29er to match. ![]()
Re: 10K PLUS club 2012(continued..) The changes Steve made felt so dramatic that I revised my goals for my fortnight's riding. I had big goals but I have faith in Steve's abilities and so decided that i need to give myself time to get used to the new position.
So I set off on my first ride on Sunday morning, prepared to keep it to a short (50ish km) easy ride. I rode the 25 km to Mullumbimby and met up by accident with the crew from the bike shop there. They were doing a MTB ride but invited me to join them for the sealed road part of their ride. The conversation was good and I was still feeling good so I kept riding. Once I left them to hit the dirt I did a long loop back to Byron and ended up doing 105km for the day. Most importantly, although the new position was still feeling very strange, I finished one of the hilliest rides I have done in ages in good shape and not sore in any particular spot - just all over! ![]()
Re: 10K PLUS club 2012Day 2 and other than general soreness I was feeling good. I decided to take it easy by doing a relatively flat ride to Mullum and onto Main Arm and then back.
The bike still felt odd - I could feel the reduced seat height and that I was further forward. Steve had pointed out that I drop my heels under high load and that I didn't seem to be on top of the pedals. Hence the changes. This time it still felt odd but I seemed smoother. Every now and then I felt that the new position was "right". 82km later and I was convinced that I should keep persevering ( I had wavered to the point of taking the multi tool out of the saddle bag so I wasn't tempted to raise the saddle mid ride). Because I don't want to get an overuse injury (as mentioned in another thread) I decided to take Day 3 (today) off. But tomorrow I intend to do another flat 80 ish and then on Thurs I am going to do about 120 with the crew from the Mullum bike shop. More then... ![]()
