I got another ride in today, 47km thru the hills this arvo, leaving my Sept as follows:

Rides: 15 (ytd 104)
Total Distance: 691.07km (ytd 4420.31km)
Metres Climbed: 12220 (ytd 84123)

Feels great to get a decent month in after a very average June, July and August.
Looking fwd to Kinglake 115km next weekend, and ATB 210km 2 weeks later.
Well done to all the 6k clubbers' achievements so far, and thanks for all the banter!

Keep it up :)

Time for you to take the non out of non-pro :D

I ticked over the 5000kms on this mornings mtb ride. Should be able to reach my goal with 3 months to go.

Herewith are my stats for September:

Made 2 new cycling friends (Ruth 60 & Kim 31), threw 1 bike computer across the room while trying to reset it (took it off the bike first of course), broke 1 rear dérailleur (a stick in the chain), discovered how quickly you stop with a stick caught in the chain (quickly), gave up cycling for running (started Couch to 5k program), missed cycling and decided to do both (now everything hurts twice as much!), motivated 2 work friends to take up riding (and a 3rd one is thinking about it), made the huge mistake of riding a friend's $5000 Trek Madone (Lance was wrong! It is a little bit about the bike! My friend watched me disappear into the horizon and hasn't let me on it since), drank lots of coffee, had a few rides that were awful but more rides that reminded me why I lovemybike (wouldn't say no to a new Trek though!).

Great ride report there Julie...huge mistake to take the Madone for a spin, don't ride an upgrade unless you can afford to purchase the upgrade, that's what I've always said and stuck to. Mr MM has often offered to let me ride his bike but I have resisted lest I become dissatisfied with my current ride.

Don't speak too soon m'boy. That comment might be just enough to get this ol' bloke off his butt for a few decent rides.

You'd better get moving, your goal for the year is higher than mine ;)

:D

I guess that must be the first gauntlet of the year?

And for Dave (just back from PD): I told you it would be too flat up there to ride. Interesting on the beach though with a howling wind up your tail.

It's temping but I don't know if I could justify the $50 at the moment. Struggling with too many organised rides to choose from. I've entered the family in the Sydney Spring Cycle and I've committed to doing the Audax Alpine Classic in January. I'm also hoping to do the Highland Fling but am wondering if I'm up to the 110km or if I should try and find a Flinging Threesome to enter with. So with those I'm already pushing my limits of how much I can justify on entry fees.

marinmomma, looking at the ride profile and your pic looks like a nice climb out in the bush?

lovemybike, sounds like you've had a busy and productive month. Well done on the workplace conversions and good luck with doing both running and cycling.

962k for last month, my best ever. And today was 200km with over 3,000m climbing, my longest and toughest ride by a very long way. Great fun :) .

I thought you threw one at the start of the year, can't be bothered looking. In any case I'll just keep doing my usual commute and see what happens.

Hey there Shane

The hinterland behind the Gold Coast has some awesome riding...heaps of climbing but fairly gentle, great scenery, the roads are generally pretty good and the volume of traffic isn't too bad either.

You could do SEQ version of 3 Peaks...Springbrook, Beechmont and then hit up O'Reilly's, that would be an epic ride
I've done 2/3 in a separate rides but haven't tried O'Reilly's yet!

That last part of of O'Reilly's would have you off the seat, especially if you had a few Ks under the belt, and if you have climbed the other two first??????
You could of course pamper yourself at O'Reilly's for the night???

Another ride in the dirt. This one was a mixture of road and dirt.

A funny story from yesterday's commute home...

Only have the one bike so it doubles as my Saturday special and my commuter, Aluminium and heavy. Running a new ($16) Radbot and another flashing red rear on the helmet; Ayups on the front and a Zefal spy mirror on the handlebars; weather was fine so riding sans plastic mudguard.

Leaving work just on dusk, had gone about 1km and just warming up when a young whippet zipped past on TT bars. You could tell the bike was aero, light weight and running SRAM groupset but no lights. My natural thought was: good, some company :D . Anyway, stayed with him for a few km but not sitting right on.

Coming up to a roundabout, a car was approaching from behind so I did the right thing and calmly called out "Car back", well judging from the startled reaction: he hadn't expected this old codger to have kept up. With that he did the honourable thing, got out of the seat and proceeded to try and drop me. I could have told him he didn't need to try so hard, but he was dancing like Alberto on Alp d'Huez going up the hill we now found ourselves on. One look at MY frame would have told him I don't do hills, my only saving grace, the new team kit lycra shorts :)

If this fellow ever podiums in the future, i would like to claim my share of the credit for the extra effort he put into last night's training ride-it's the 1% things that count :D :D

I have had a bloody cold all week so no riding for me this week or on the weekend.

Instead I have been building my new fixie.

For anyone remotely interested, I have started dribbling out the ride reports from the charity ride on the blog.

Would love some feedback. They are a little time consuming to throw together, and I have only done 4 of 8. Am I wasting my time? :)
