And the fact that the KOM is just over 14 minutes.

It isnt the KOM I want, I need to get in front of you. LOL

Ok, KOM would be nice, but not doable for me.

In that case, you must remain behind me at all times. Or just in front if its windy :D

I spent a bit of time segment hunting today. Managed to pick up another 2 KOM's, and missed out on a third by 0.1 KM/h. Arrrrrrrgh!

EDIT: 63-ish KM ridden today. Brings me up to 708KM for Feb and 1,711KM for the year.

just over 35km tonight after work, great arvo for it... except when I was demoralisingly (is that a word??) overtaken by two blokes on the Officer/Upper Beacy Rd.
Great fun still :)

Just checked out this "Strava" thing... turns out there are 2 segments on my regular commute... I'm currently 44th all time on one of them...

grantw wrote:I was thinking that 230 ish kms would be about right distance - starting at dapto, heading up the hill and then across through bowral and down via Hill Top and Thirlmere, cutting across to Wallacia and then overnighting somewhere around Penrith for about 175kms for the first leg, then an early start for another 50-60kms out along the river towards Richmond before heading on to breakfast.

Home leg via the M7 to Ctown take Campbelltown Rd to Appin Rd, via Broughton Gorge - then a short stretch on Picton Road to Mt Keira and then it's all down hill to Dapto for another 80 -90 km or so.

I too have spare vest and lights, and by only doing 180ish km we should easily be settling in for dinner and a beer by 7pm so you won't need an array of ay-ups

Your course is sounding pretty good. One question, the early morning ride would be a warm-up before recommencing the offical ride? If so that's fine, otherwise the rules for the Petit could be a problem. The way I read it is we need to stop riding by 9pm on the Saturday and then continue again from that point to the finish between 7am and 9am on the Sunday. With that in mind my searching led me to the Colyton Hotel as a potential stopover point. From there it's a 32.05km ride along the M7 and Old Windsor Rd cycleways to Parramatta Park. I figure that's a good distance to allow a bit of time for any hassles like puncture or mechanical issues along the way. For the start of the course I came up with a 169.86km or a 198.77km course along what you suggested. The rules allow shortening the ride on the day as long as you complete 80% and still complete 180km so if we submitted the longer of those two we would still have the option of taking the short one if for any reason we felt the need to on the day.

You right Shane, I'd forgotten that the petit is limited to 14 hours riding time. So your ending makes more sense. Not sure if its the work network, but the toaster route links are all taking me to the last section. But then I've not been having much success with GPS related things in the last couple of days...

I notice David S and Shane up ahead on the Bike Journal - just like at the end of 2011.
Apple is just ahead too but unless she drags herself away from Mr Abbott the three of us are going to pass in a flash.
Beautiful day here for a fixie ride down to coffee (of course) but parked around the back.

Lewy, that sounds like a pre emptive excuse to me. :)

I think I have a gentle ride with Sam tomorrow. I will clean and lube the bike after that. I am thinking of wearing my skin suit (read, smallest jersey) on Sunday to cut down aero drag.

Cracked the 1000km mark today. Slightly ahead of target though it was a struggle to stay there with the kids being back at school and my wife starting work again. Got a couple of bunch rides coming up that should help the tally 8)

Ah, ok, you're looking at the overall table instead of the ACF one. Now I understand. I haven't used sblack (which is in the ACF club) at all this year. Because bikejournal rides can only count towards one club I created the one you've found to do the Bicycle NSW Commuter Challenge which was to ride 5000km from July 4 last year when it started until the end of March this year. I hit the 5000 km mark earlier in the month and stopped using it then. I'm now at 1231km, if you ever want to check where I'm at just check my Strava profile since that's how I'm logging all rides now. If you're logged in when you check it should list your figures along side mine as well although I don't think all your rides are in there?

I had a good ride today, I did have a crash last week which makes me nervous to ride at present, sore rib and other things, otherwise I am just riding with care. It’s amazing how quickly confidence is reduced after a fall.

I have been wondering why Mr Abbott has been so quiet during the implosion of the government. Now it is all clear. :)
