Got one...didnt actually go flat whilst riding but got a flat anyway...checked the outside of the tyre and couldnt see anything, put a new tube in and got another

this time I checked the inside of the tyre and sure enough I found a bit of metal, got the tweezers and pulled it out, nice straight bit of wire

so 2 more for me, makes it 5 I think now

Does a puncture on a trainer count?

Flat from little carpet tack this morning...

Then my spare tube was only just long enough in the valve to get the end of my CO2 canister onto - must remember to check the valve length when buying tubes :)

Edit - got some really nice Schwalbe tubes 80mm valves

Slow flat found when leaving in the morning.
This time last year in my “Annus horribilis” I was up to 10..

+1=3

Brought the Orbea to work instead of the Giant as the weather was nice and I felt like a spin at lunch. A nice bit of glass sliced my back tyre and embedded it in the tube. Actually wonder if the tyre is stuffed - a cut about 1cm long going across the tread towards one side. I'll check it again tonight to see how much of the cut is all the way through. Just hope it holds together heading up North Rocks Rd this afternoon.

+1 = 4 for me. Slow rear puncture on the morning commute. I shouldn't complain as it's the first I've had since early January when I bought my new Salca floor pump.

+1

Wagga Road race, 30km in - just out of Junee and the back wheel started wobbling. Got a flat last year in the same race but a bit further in. Not a happy camper. The spare tube didn't inflate either as scratch rolled past, fortunately someone stopped and handed over their spare tube and it was a sloooooowwwww ride to the finish line.

start total = 9 +1
4000 kms (1137kms)

0x hybrid
2x racer (0/2 conti gp4000s new for 2012)
2x fixie rear (conti gp4000s - this one retired after discovering chunks out of the back from emergency stopping)
4x fixie front (kenda koncept - retired after 9400kms!)
2x pannier bike (0/2 conti gp4000s new for 2012)

New total = 10 (AT) 400kms per flat
n=10 (2013 & 2004 roads,2010 track,2x 2009 foldups,1990 hybrid,1992 trainer,2007 rental,1970's step through,1980's zeus)

Got 2 yesterday. Big piece of glass then I put in a tube that was too small and it flatted 4kms later.

That's 3 in 3400kms. All on the same bike too.

+ 2.

Came out of work last Thursday to a half inflated front tyre.
Couldn't find the cause so I pumped it back up and rode home.
By the time I got there it was starting to go soft again, so changed the tube and checked the tyre but it remains a mistery. Patched the tube and all is good.

Then, I got the bike out last night for today's commute and the rear was soft.
Found a fairy pube in the tyre.

new total 11.

Kev.

Another on the way home today. Slow leak. Don't know where. Stupid thing can get repaired later. Just replaced the tube for now. Flat battery in the car when I finally made it back didn't improve the mood...

+2 on the 12 June for a total of 4 thus far.
1st was a nail through the tyre (fun at 7:00AM at 1.8 Degrees.... ) 2nd was after I put a 28mm tube in the 37mm tyre to replace it. Lasted about 20k before the tube started leaking from some sort of internal wear in the tyre
1.370" x 24 tpi - what sort of stupid standard is that?

2 more for me yesterday. Ran over something that felt like a small rock and she went flat about 30 seconds later. Changed it and rode 30 k's home, put the bike around the back, changed and when I went to put it away the back tyre was flat  Patched this tube up and checked the inside of the tyre again, felt OK but found something stuck on the outside that could have caused the 2nd puncture. This morning when I got the steed ready for a ride the back tyre had only 20psi so I pumped it up and went on my usual ride but it was flat after 25k's. Changed it again and checked the inside of the tyre, seemed OK. Found a pinhole in the 2nd tube which may have been there all along.

2012 Black Cat Awards

Postby Parrott » Wed Jun 27, 2012 1:13 am

Rolling through in the pace line at 40ish this morning. Here a clattering noise as something is hitting the frame. Thought it was a stick or something jammed in the spokes until the back went dead flat very quickly.
Bloody 3 inch nail embedded in the back tyre and all bent where it has been hitting the rear brake and seat tube on the way through.

Total =3, all in the back tyre

+1=5 for me. Slow puncture on the commute back home. I could re-inflate it with my pump and gently ride the last few km's home. It was an embedded stone in the tyre carcass.

After being puncture free since the first week of January I've had two in the last two weeks.

14 + 2 = 16 Rear wheel both times. The first one I know was caused by broken glass. Didn't find the cause of the second one

It's been so long since I had one, I haven't been updating the list! I promise I'll have a go on the weekend.

But... sucked-in MB, that's a pretty big total for the first six months.

1 for me this morning. Only been communting a couple of months and had 2 so far.
First one was taking a threshold ramp from the road to the bike path a little fast, missing and getting a front tyre pinch flat as i jumped from the grass and back to the path

Second, this morning, noticed a little slide of the back i was taking a corner, pulled over and back wheel is flat. Whipped off the wheel, took the tube out fitted the new tube and had it back on in no time. As i was stuffing the removed tube back in the bag, noticed the screw top on the presta valve had made it's way loose and was letting air out somehow. Probably from me trying to pump it this morning prior to heading off and knocking it loose. So don't think it was a puncture. Could have just screwed it back in, given it a pump and been fine. Will know to check for next time.

Thing that pisses me off the most is, both flats and a recent broken spoke i was wearing a white long sleeve jersey and have gotten grease all over it.

I see an advert on a local mail order chain saying that Michelin Pro3race and Pro4race are virtually puncture proof. I might buy a set of each so each time I get a flat I can have a laugh

You know, I LOVE my Pro3's as race tyres... but nothing - NOTHING - would get me to commute on them.

2 + 1 = 3

Noticed the front rim was sitting on the floor yesterday after Sundays ride.

Inspected the tyre & picked out about 10 little chunks of glass. One of them had just poked through enough & caused the tiniest little hole.

Had to use the submersed in the laundry tub method to find it.
Gas propulsion.......it's natural don't fight it.

On a flyer coming home late last night, was on target for a PB when disaster struck. The Canterbury Council roads strikes again! Either a pothole, glass or a combo of both got my front tyre. Not quite sure exactly what the cause was at it was a pretty dark street. I was so close to home I decided to walk the rest and the PB evaporated (or should i say hissed out).

No, this is not a double post!!! On another flyer coming home late tonight. The Canterbury Council roads strikes again and it was pretty much in the same stretch of road as last night! Scraped a pothole, glass got my rear tyre. At least this time i posted the PB. On the geared bike today as i was too lazy to change the fixie this morning (feels like cheating riding with gears!)
