And, +1 for me last Friday, some glass in the front tyre worked its way through in the wet, lots of hissing noises until the sealant kicked in. This was "Joe's Road Racer" sealant inside a Vittoria tube (removable valve) in a Panaracer Duro, it held ~ 60psi till I got to work and at the end of the day I pumped it up fully and it held 110psi until I pulled it apart on Saturday night. And I then removed enough glass from the tyres to make a smallish bottle. A big "Thumbs Up" for the Joe's, and I know jcjordan has had success with the Tufo Extreme sealant.

NOTE : As of 1'st July, the competition CLOSED. Only people in this list will continue to be in the running total.

Besides which, I think mikesbytes has it pretty much sewn up. :P Although a couple of chasers still haven't returned to the peleton... we'll see.

Gawd, I hope this is correct... people kept on interrupting me. Some of these won't match what people think their running total is - sometimes upwards because they posted more flats that they remember, but in some cases people claimed their running total was higher than I could account for. But - I have just worked out FINALLY how to get advanced search to return the posts for this thread (can't handle the "2012" in the search), so I can go back and check if people think the total is incorrect. PM me if you think there needs to be a correction.

Thanks for posting the running totals Twiz, I wasn't looking forward to digging back for my last post

One more for me, shard of glass in the rear tyre. Big mongrel too, about 4x5 mm. It wasn't a blowout tho', me Gator got me almost 5kms home before it was too flat to ride. The hole in the tube was barely bigger than a pinhole.

That's THREE.

On reflection, maybe I shouldn't have decided to take a different route to work...

I'm on the Dynon Rd path and spinning well, the rain's stopped and I'm outta the wets and loving the zzz of slicks on wet pavement. Passing the railyards, I'm crossing the tollways ramps when I spot the glitter of smashed glass on one of the islands, a twitch of the bars to avoid has me straight over the top of the stump of a sign sticking up about 4cms. Total and instant loss of air from the front. Investigation revealed a 12mm gash in the front tyre :( No way that's getting fixed and still getting in on time, I walked the few hundred m to NME station and trained the last km. Here's hoping the patch in the tyre holds up to get me home and me Wiggle order of a pair of shiny new UltraGators arrives tomorrow, the tracker says they're in Melbs already *xfingers*

Wonder which mobs desk I can bang on about that particular hazard? :?

That's FOUR.

lmao.

Just to correct you there Mike, I ride the M5 not the M4, and bike are still allowed.....at least until they widen it to 3 lanes ("Stuff the Cyclist" upgrade).

Oh, and now you're only 5 ahead.

+1

Was on the M5 (typical) just before the toll plaza heading west when I hit something small but sharp that put a 30mm slash right through the sidewall of my Maxxis Refuse.
Spent 5 minutes looking for the offending object but couldn't find it. Spent another 5 minutes looking for something to put inside the tyre to stop the new tube ballooning out, but couldn't find anything suitable. Luckily, I had a business card from Cycling Australia in my backpack which did the job nicely until I got home.

Another Refuse bites the dust, but I reckon I got about 15,000km out of it.

New Total = 12 at 487km per flat.

Kev.

Well, I'll be damned...

My first flat of the year, and it was a valve failure rather than a puncture. Noticed my rear tyre was a little flat so stopped. Released the valve and it released all the way out. It is one of those replaceable inner valve thingamy bobs and I have another couple like it, so the tube is not wasted, yay!

Replaced tube and continued to work.

1 flat, ~7160km this year before the flat. I knew it had been a while, but totally shocked  at this.

4+1=5

Got back to my bike this afternoon and the back had a piece of glass in it and was totally flat. Repaired it in record time as I had to get to a dentist appt.

Wow, 7160 km and just one flat, and that a tube fault rather than a tyre fault. You've gotta tell us, what brand tyre ?

+1 so 6 from memory. Riding home in the rain and picked up a bit of glass in the rear. 100 metres from home so got to change it on my terms.

+1, 9. A piece of glass in the rear, just managed to nick the tube causing a slow leak. But it would have to 'bump' on an unlit bike path in the middle of nowwhere. The rear tyre is shagged, and I can't get the same tyre any more... dunno where to next for tyres.

Who needs motorways.... +1 = 18

Anyway the rear tried to go straight when I was going around a round-a-bout and knew what that meant

+1, 10, something sliced through the front tyre, a tubeless hutchinson Intensive... latex fountain. I think this one had 'Stans' in it. First tube leaked, second tube was the last one I had, so I RTB'ed for tubes and CO2. Not impressed with the Hutchinson tyres, they cut far too easily.

+1 for me to take it to two for the year.

A rear Conti GP4000s with 3023 km on it fell victim to the M5 rubbish dumpers just east
of the Belmore Rd off-ramp. It was the tyre's first puncture. A staple was protruding from edge
of tread - could hardly blame the black cat or the tyre for not resisting bogan rubbish like that;
there was a crate and other stuff smashed over a wide area so it was pretty hard to find a safe way through it.

Motorists bang on about cyclist breaking the law, but the debris strewn all along the road shoulders
is proof a damned lot of them don't give a fig for obeying littering laws or securing their loads
legally. Phew, got that of my chest. :)

S'pose another thing I should be grateful for is that I'm nowhere near threatening the leaderboard.

Cheers

+2 =9 for the year. Had an accident in a group ride when a newby clipped a wheel and went down. Had a slow leak that I pumped up every couple of km's to get home. Next morning front was flat also. The only evidence I could see was what looks like a big impact on the front tube. Supposedly when I went flying over the bars after hitting downed riders. :x

Two on the club ride Sunday and one more on the way home from the cafe after, pulled up at home with the rear tyre gasping it's last. Why do you get flats when your wheels are dirty? I think thats 12 for the year :-(

5+2=7

Same tyre was flat the day after I last got a flat. I put the tube to the side wondering if a previous repair or something else caused it. Just checked it and it has a pinch flat.

Another flat yesterday on the way home from work. I have a commute bike with Maxxis Refuse tyres on it, but somehow the Orbea with GP4000s is more fun to ride... Taking it through an industrial estate twice daily isn't all that smart it seems
