Clearly the cyclists fault. He should not have voted for the other guy.

I can't say that I find much of value in the mayors comment “It does show how careful we all have to be in sharing our roads.”. It seems to me to be admitting fault only in an abstract "s^&T happens" sort of way. Worse, it can be readily construed by those who choose to to imply that doorings are the cost of allowing cyclists the access that they have.

Does not winding up draped over the door or having to swerve entitle me to a point in the doorzone contest? Slammed open as I was passing the rear wheel. I was going too fast to get a hand out and close it

When there's parked cars about, my bikelane is 100mm wide and coloured white.
...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

I caught the end of TV law the other day and the lawyers on that show talked about dooring.

Copy available here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbxpOGhV5dE&feature=plcp start at approximately 9 mins and watch on. This one contains the second half http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hqnY6LTDIc&feature=plcp and the comment at the end of the show that say something like "you'll never get me onto a bike".

So cyclists have to look out for doorings? Yes and we don't pay rego. Composing a comment as i speak...

what has the cost of registration got to do with a criminal offence of opening a door into traffic?

I had been led to believe that our top scholars have been gravitating towards uni law degrees. Musta got that wrong.

If that show is aired in order to show the firm in a good light then it fails dismally. I mean, if that segment is an indication would you reckon on any of these guys being able to put together a cogent argument?

Those guys sound like the Australian equivalent of Lionel Hutz (a reminder for who need it)

Or possibly Saul Goodman for those who watch Breaking Bad:

the cynic in me suspects that neither cyclists nor people of average intelligence are in their target market
