My bike got slammed by Australian Cyclist

Postby beauyboy » Fri Mar 21, 2008 11:07 am

Ok i have an Avanti Pionear and if you read the review they did of it and it got slammed. . My bike got slammed as slow, slower then a mountain bike. However when I am riding I overtake heaps of people but then again I have made alterations.

Well you don't need a magazine to tell you if a bike you own is good or not, you should know by now. ;)

You can't judge your speed on who you're passing or being passed by, because there's always going to be people faster & slower. There will be a lot of bikes out there that are easier to ride fast than the Pioneer, it's not really a going-fast kind of bike.

Would love to read the article to get the context, but how could one bike be so much slower than another bike of the same general class of bike, doesn't make sense.

It really the rider that counts.

My previous commuter bike was an Avanti Discovery, the model below the pioneer. These bikes are not designed for straight road bike type usage. I commuted for several years on a 50-50 gravel bike path/sealed road route, the bike performed great day in day out. Horses for courses. Of course it isn't as fast as a road bike, or as good as a MTB on the dirt, but for the riding I was doing at the time it was great. In any case who cares what anyone says about the bike. If it is the bike that suits you, and that you enjoy, then it is irrelevant what anyone else's opinion is.

Yeah we all make mistakes at times
It is a s**t to spend a lot [or a little] and end up with something that dosen't make you happy.
I now have 10 bikes and I love them all
but quite a few years back when I had less idea...
I...
My MTB of 18years died and I went a bought a Avanti Discovery without doing the proper research... I hated it within a few weeks but I stuck with it, thinking I'd spent good $s on it "So it has to be good"
It just didn't fit me right... and it was a slug
I ended up giving it to a kid who needed a bike and went and got a hardtail for $25 from Vinnies and when I go bush that is the MTB I still ride,,, it fits and goes great.
Point of this story...
If it fits and goes great ...keep it
If it dosen't get rid of it

Well thats the thing I love my Pionear and I have no issues with it but I just did not expect such a poor performance in the mag. I maintain healthy speeds and averages it is just strange that it got such a poor result.
