Spring is just around the corner. Plenty of Magpies eyeing me off this winter, the swoops are only weeks or days away........

Rules

1) Every individual swoop counts for 1 point

2) Every contact no matter how light or heavy counts for 2 points

3) Bird poo left on any part of the rider during an attack counts for 3 points

4) Every contact that draws blood from the rider counts for 5 points

5) Any bird attack is a legitimate point score, magpies, ravens, wattlebirds etc all count

6) Please keep a running tally of your moving target points with each post

7) The most tormented rider with the highest score at the end of the season (2012 calendar year) is declared the Moving Target Champion of 2012

Well that's a shame :(

Merging the posts from the old thread into the 2012 version has made DavidL the defacto author, sorry about that open roader.

If DavidL and Tim would be so kind as to repost their originals I should be able to make things right.

Thanks
Shaun

No problem, but I hope the rules agree with all ........?

Yep, they're off to an early start this year. Three swoops, no contact. Fine, sunny day on the Tambo River.
I think our exceptionally cold winter and floods and then some fine weather might have triggered the earlier than usual nesting.
If that's as aggro as this one gets, good.

Re-posted as requested.
Rules agree with me.

Same bird, same place. 3 points yesterday, 5 today. 3 swoops on the way out and 2 coming back. I don't mind when there is no contact and the weather is as good as the last few days, its all part of the fun. The maggies down here must be a bit more frisky than those in the warmer states. Spring is in the air. Total 8 points.

1 Point for me so far. Had a magpie have a crack from the front and back just on two weeks ago.

First two swoops of the season for me today, onein a usual 'danger zone', another in an unexpected place.

Running total = 2 points

Seems the 2012 season has started.

Swooped twice; one on Wed. last week, one on Sunday (same bird).

At this rate all the swooping should be finished by Spring.

- David.

Big thanks to Tim and DavidL, I've deleted your original posts and order has been restored.

I'm hoping to take the Lantern Rouge this year with a nil score, good luck to all :D

I am not sure what is going on, none yet. Hundreds looking at me each ride but nothing yet. Maybe my ride today is my lucky day

My new mate has turned into an ear clacker, left side each time and I think he is getting a bit more aggro. No strikes yet and its all still good fun, that is until he gets the taste for blood. Heaps of swoops and clacks all week, lost count. Conservatively 10 swoops. Total points, 18.

One magpie swooped me this morning four times in succession without making contact. Is that 4pts or 1 pt?

For Novocastrians, it was in front of the Mayfield Motel opposite the lights into Warabrook. Be safe out there

If I read the rules correctly that's 1 point for every individual swoop, so 4 points. But Open Roader is the magpie master, better check with him.

Two new birds have stepped up to the plate yesterday who are traditional culprits. Though their swoops I think where still getting their eye in as they only came to about meter off me, they did practice the good old wing crack to let me know they where there. I only noticed one swoop each the rest was just sizing me up.

So that would bring the running total to 4pts.

- David.

You guys and gals take it with good grace.

I'm personally scared witless by them. I was going to hold back from selling my car just so I could avoid Magpie season

Freemans Reach magpie has started. I lost count of the swoops (I was at a property in his territory, so it went on for the whole time I was there).

And I don't care how silly I look walking my bike while holding an umbrella until out of his zone, nor what ridicule passing cars throw at me... a magpie's beak may make blood leak, but jibes will never hurt me.

I also had a swoop (though it seemed half-hearted) elsewhere back in January... are there out-of-season bonus points?

Can't we at least get the cold mornings finished with before these idiotic homicidal feathered fiends crank up their nonsense?

Another ride around the national circuit this morning and the pest was out in force climbing up the hill on the highway.

Three swoops each with a wing crack. No contact yet he must be still warming up.

Running Total: 7pts.

- David.
