I think you're right - seem to remember paying $49. Still, very happy with it.gorilla monsoon wrote:Yes, but if memory serves they have actually dropped about $10 in price over last time! Bugger.Spaniel wrote:I got one of the maintenance stands last year. Great value for money.

I just tried my S jersey and M knicks on, and they fit really nicely. Would have been nice to have a full zip, but they're pretty well made. I must say I was a bigger fan of the 2 pocket system of last year's jerseys, but the larger middle pocket works OK. The knicks aren't as long as last year's but not silly short like Cell's bibknicks. Common sizes went pretty quickly at Civic Aldi. The gloves are extremely small - they only had M, S and XL left, and I'm pretty sure my usualy S-M hands would have only worked in the L. The glove design is OK on the palm side, but in the sun-smart age the large open panel on the back of the hand is pretty silly.AndrewCowley wrote:Be warned. The medium men's shirts are tiny. Went to Aldi to buy a few things today at the Bayswater Vic store today and here is what I've thought of the purchases
1) Bike stand - actually looks solid and a good buy for $40
2) Premium Tool kit. Hate to see what the un-premium toolkit quality is like . Looks its ok for $30. You get what you pay for there. I just wanted the cassette removal tool and chain whip mainly. A nice addition is the old fashion tyre pressure checker. That might get some use if it doesn't break. If you haven't got a toolkit I think its worth it.
3) Cycling Jacket (full sleeve). Now I really like this. Finally a jacket that fits me and not those uber small things. I got the XXL which is suppose to be for 112cm chest and 102 waist and fits me perfect (I'm normally a 102 chest but like all cycling clothing its very very small fitting!). Other sizes are S 92, M 97 and XL 107 so I suggest going up a size or two if you are on the Clydesdale size. $25
4) Cycling Knicks with premium SeatPad. Yep another winner. I got the XXL (102 waist) which was true to form. Looks better than last years version but time will tell with stretching (and doing the Polish Cycling team impression). Other sizes are S 82, M 87, L 92 and XL 97. $17
5) Men cycling shorts (MTB type). I got the XL 97 in a hope they would fit because they look really good (and that's the biggest size) but alas no good. Only is sizes S 82, M 87, L 92 and XL 97. $22. I've got the curse of the fast bowler's build.
6) Mens short sleave cycling shirt (Jersey). I got the XL 107 also in hope it would fit but no again. Quality looks good. I'm a bit over jerseys tight fit to be honest. I actually bought a Chinese 4XL once it was still on the tight size. XL is the largest size. Other sizes are S 92, M 97 and L 102. $17
So all up I've gone through $151 bucks today. A little shocked when I got it all to the register but will be taking a couple of items back.
Anyway hope that helps anyone looking at this stuff out.
Other stuff at the Bayswater store at 12 noon, a few Mountain Bikes still avail, lots of Helmets which are super cheap and lightweight, lots of gloves and sunglasses as well as the above.
Cheers, Rod.

The tool kit on sale at the moment looks almost identical to the 'Bikehand' brand I have, which was a cheapy off ebay. As someone said above, yeah it's cheap, but if you don't have tools, it's a good start. I've done a wad of maintenance on my bike/wheels using it. Worthy investment for any potential DIY'er
Wouldn't be interested to know who bought the lights this time around? Again, I've purchased different lights from Aldi before and been far from impressed. The rear wasn't terrible. I now use the front light as an emergency torch in my shed :p It's pretty massive, and the output is crap for a bike light.
Also, I see in the next catalogue there's a torque wrench for about $25.00! The catalogue doesn't say what range it works to and from though. I'm thinking it may be more suited to cars, and not the finer torque range's for bikes....????

Just hope I manage to get back on the bike real soon so that I can get some use out of them.

The tool kit is certainly worth the $30 if you don't have any tools. Cone and headset wrenches are made from brass or a similar soft metal and round off in no time. Those I have replaced over the past 2 years of owning the tool kit, but the rest of the tools aren't too bad.

I also got the MTB shorts, they run big as someone else mentioned, last time M was perfect, now too big. I also don't like the pocket as it's further down the leg so if you stick a phone in there it's gonna bang against your leg.
Might return these tomoz and get a jacket.
If anyone in eastern suburbs wants M MTB shorts and they've sold out PM me and I'll hang onto them.
The sunnies are fine for a 10er.
Tool kit has a lot of unnecessary bits like Allen keys/screwdrivers/spanners, might be better off buying better quality essential tools as needed?

Na, they are a bit more bulkier than that (actually pretty good quality I thought). It may fit if you have a large pocket at the back of your jersey but its not like one of those ultralight jackets that roll up to the size of your hand.digbyj wrote:Does anyone know if the jackets fold up into themselves to stick into your back pocket?

Bike (DS MTB = 19" size frame) can do with some tuning to get right, but ride and gear change was better than what I was expecting (after 2 min test ride on road). 650LBS/in coil seems ok with my 75kg weight. Not as much pogo'ng from rear suspension as I was expecting given I have seen almost the same shocks on ebay for $15 from China. Gear change not as crisp as higher level Shimano, but will do me. Gear levers have a little flex. Quality of finish a bit lacking, but add some mud, and you will not notice. Seat post a bit short for tall riders. Suits me = 180cm tall. Anxious to try out bike on some fire trails.
Bike light is brilliant - literally. Tool kit should be ok as a spare or when transporting the bike to a forest ride. Back pack cargo capacity is a bit small for my commuting needs, but suited to mtb’ng on the weekends.
Given I have used Aldi's Crane and Bikemate bicycle gear over the last 4 years, and they have served me well, hoping to get the same longevity out of this new stuff.

There are so many more Aldi stores now when I think of it in the Eastern subs of Melb if you can't find what you are looking for. Just in my Area there is Kilsyth, Bayswater, Burwood East, Forest Hill and a new one coming at Vermont South. 5 stores in a 10-15 kms radius! So now after my initial purchase I'm going to wait a couple of weeks and then pick-off the discounted bargains. Last year they were throwing out helmets for $10 and few other things at half price. Could be worth the wait.
Edit: think there had 7 or 8 stands in the bayswater store left fyi
