Same here. I vaguely remember Ljungqvist made an attack about 50km out (though don't quote me on that, I was pretty groggy already!), then woke to the SBS perpetual weather report around 4am.wayno wrote:I had all intention to watch the whole race but passed out sometime between 12.30-1am.

What size are those green tyres? I see 24-28 on the side.
They mentioned that some of the riders were using tubeless tyres.

If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

Had a look at the www.cyclingnews.com website, it appears 24C was front tyres and the rear were 27C.531db wrote:24C, the 28" bit is 700C, so 700 x 24C.mikesbytes wrote:What size are those green tyres? I see 24-28 on the side.

Not too different from my Maxxis Fuse 25C/Detonator 28C combo as proven in the 'Oakville-Roubaix' (Parramatta CC racing) on the weekend

I spent Fri/Sat/Sun moving house so was physically exhausted but decided to try and stay up for the race regardless. Got through the first half OK then nodded off for awhile, but woke up in time to see the finish. Not quite sure what I missed. I saw O'Grady go out after Devolder, after that it gets a bit hazy. I don't remember seeing the final three break away, they where already quite close to the velodrome by the time I woke. Oh well, might grab a torrent if I can find one.

Did he ride it thou?...in the end all the wet weather bikes stayed on the cars and everyone was on standard kit apart from a % of box section rims.

we have these pavers in the botanic gardens in brizbane that have big gaps in between them and are roughly cobble size and it's on my alternative (longer) commute and anyway everytime i run down them it feels like i am going faster than ever... and so as i rolled over them i imagined this was like what cobbles feel like in the paris-roubaix and then NOW maybe I thinking cobbles reduce rolling resistance and they may feel !! BAN ME NOW FOR SWEARING !! on your arse - but you roll much quicker. OK. i dunno much about stuff. but this is just a little half-theory. what do y'all think?

It feels faster because there is more to think about and it shakes you around more - like bombing down rough fire trails on an MTB can feel faster than on road, even if your real speed is lower.
Each time you go over a rock, cobble, bump, or worst of all corrugation, you lose a little bit of speed going up then gain a little less going down. The tyre flexes more which makes more resistance. Finally the strain of suspending your body and pedalling when the pedals are jolting around against your legs fatigues you much faster.
Cobbles, rough roads, bumps etc all slow you down.

i was talking about those pavers with uncle arthur this arvo. much smoother on my old steely repco with cheapo rims than my alloy framed raceline with deep v wheelset. i almost always say to myself 'paris-roubaix!' at some point from the gardens to the story bridge, and wish all the damn pedestrians would fsck off out of our way
ps im still waiting for a repco story bridge photo mg
